🍅-approved critic/Assistant editor @DailyGrindhouse. Writer, reviewer, reader. Bylines at Daily Grindhouse, Dread Central, Killer Horror Critic, We Are Horror, and more. Horror enthusiast, disability representation ranter. Book witch.
I am constantly proud to know @mbmcandrews.bsky.social, one of my personal inspirations for keeping it going despite the horrors, and I’m honored to have a small home at the site for a column I care deeply for (soon to return). This is incredibly cool for MB and @dreadcentral.bsky.social both!

I continue to fight tooth and nail against the day job drain and trauma-related depression that seeks to sap me of my writing motivation. Over the last few weekends it’s been through a balance of reading and art.

#InternationalDogDay, please show your love to my precious Fox, the single best couch potato my unfortunate state has ever seen.

Honestly if you’re looking for something to do today, your best bet is to read either of these.

Started watching #GoodAmericanFamily and feeling a…lot of complex things.

#NationalLibraryWeek day 3 was all about current reads! In audiobook form via hoopla: Sunrise on the Reaping; through Libby: @sgj.bsky.social’s Buffalo Hunter Hunter and I are finally united!!! Big week for Feelings.

#NationalLibraryWeek day 2 is all about recent favorites. @gradyhendrix.bsky.social’s Paperbacks from Hell added things to my TBR, Witchcraft for Wayward Girls made me cry; @rachelharrison.bsky.social’s So Thirsty caught me in the middle of a #WhiteLotus watch and echoed in my brain.

Monday was meant for all the things I’ve found so far from using my library that I was unable to find anywhere else/had never heard of until going through.

Yes yes I still plan to do a watched thread of #PanicFest2025 but I just got hit with this one and I gotta go space out to a cartoon or something for a minute. Going into most of these cold but Lead Belly was…hefty.

This is insane, actually.

Things I thought I got rid of but apparently definitely did not: top 3 most horrifying King books edition

Wow I have done a lot of movie watching today but Past Lives might be the takeaway favorite.

I did dig into this and this is the shade someone recommended for a DIY cosplay, but the pinker one looks a little closer?? I too need to know.

weekend marks the 5 year mark release of an album that was very, very important to me, came to me & got me through one of the worst bits of my life to date. I don’t know that I would have held myself together without Halsey’s Manic album. I thank her for it every day. I’d be worse off without it.

So sweet and strange and vulnerable and entirely out of left field. The Becomers has enchanted me.

Nightbitch is on Hulu now, so I sat with it last night. Infinitely strange movie, adapted from an infinitely strange piece of work. Didn’t go as much into the feral as I expected, but it’s doing something else effectively. Need to reread the novel, but it’s nice that my next column piece is sorted

Huge night for me.

Started Lucy Ellman’s Ducks, Newburyport in April 2024. Finished just this afternoon. An absolute beast of a book but, ultimately, well worth the time and existential nightmares. Entirely singular experience.

Continuing my journey through as yet unwatched recent releases and I would just like to say, while I have no reason why I missed this when it first dropped, it is a wild piece of work on what women have to do to survive dangerous men.

Watching Def by Temptation for the first time and they keep calling her Spooky Woman, so I have a new favorite in the roster
