The thing about taxes is they can invest in our society and shared future, the roads we drive, food we eat, schools and parks and programs and health and safety that serve us all. Or, they can subsidize enormous wealthy corporations and rich people’s tax shelters and lifestyles.

My house was an estate sale so we ended up with some of the original furniture. In a desk in the basement office, there was an assortment of "sex joke" (they implied assault) stickers from the 1960s. Business men put these on their invoices.
I wrote a thing. As someone who survived the 1970s and kept the receipts.

To all who are trying to figure out why Americans (including yourself) aren’t moving en masse out of America during the rise of a regime, you are watching the exact same dynamic of an abusive relationship. Next time you ask “why didn’t she leave?” ask yourself why you’re still living in your house.
