1. Clay Jackson, a Texas lawyer, provided basic legal advice to an immigrant family fearing deportation

Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation"

Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

It’s really interesting seeing how true this has turned out to be in my case. I came from studying Russian misinformation and the unreality state that existed around Putin and the oligarchs. by the time 2017/18 came around it was clear that we were in the same spiral of state capture.

Newsom is kinda frustrating like if your favorite team's quarterback is overrated and sucks and would be better off replaced by his backup.

Cuomo is like if your quarterback was a secret agent for the other team and kept running the ball into his own endzone and also was murdering his teammates

New consumer sentiment data just out for April:

Americans’ expectations for how the economy will fare over the next year are now at their worst in 45 years.

Consumer confidence is down 40% since Trump’s inauguration, including a 20% drop among Republicans.

If only we had a historical precedent of a state rounding up 'undesirables' and shipping them just like a business moves freight

this is possible but another way to think of it is that if you're under 40 in China you hadn't experienced anything but growth until 2020. the appetite for eating bitterness for the sake of the nation is not that great, but the fuck you spirit at US actions is very real.
I would also assume that the Chinese, many of whom are one generation away from famine experiences, would be more willing to accept some limitations on consumption for the sake of the greater good than the Americans, who have been told to consume as much as possible for all of their lives.

I know a lot of my friends on here would have wanted a Bernie presidency, but I am a center right person down to the bones, and thought that would be bad, in large part because of economics.

But yeah, this is sort of obviously worse than even Bernie or AOC or whatever else.

Breaking: the Trump admin has “temporarily” paused enforcement of a Biden-era silica rule that was aimed at combating the rising black lung crisis in Appalachia. Coal miners and their advocates have been fighting for *decades* to lower deadly silica dust exposure levels. www.msha.gov/notice-stake...

NYT needs to correct this disinformation right away. Its reporters are apparently clueless about what's actually going on out there. People with valid visas and green-card holders ARE ABSOLUTELY being deported right now for speech, and without criminal convictions.
Currently on the front page of the New York Times.

Was doing an interview about solidarity networks and the labor movement and I eventually came to this point that is true:

Until people on the left are willing to be told what to do and take those orders and do the work and like it, we will never rebuild a functional left in this country.

Deeply weird seeing people try to paint the protests in South Korea as family friendly parties when the one that stopped the original coup featured girls doing karate moves on riot cops and guys in the legislature spraying special forces units with fire extinguishers

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Protests are powerfully for a number of reasons, solidarity, hope, optimism, etc

But more importantly they give people permission to act and continue to grow into actions that are diverse and far ranging in scope and scale.

Giving people the chance to find their own permission to act is good.
