I found this through the "Garbage Day" newsletter and it sealed the deal on cancelling Netflix for me: www.nplusonemag.com/issue-49/ess...

I need to lose my Netflix subscription. I've probably had it continuously since the old days when it was a DVD by mail service, I rarely use it, and every time I do, I'm like, "I fucking hate Netflix."

Is it just me, or was “Violent Night” (2022) kind of heartwarming? It’s possible that I just have issues, but the weird mix of tones actually worked for me.

I'd been wanting to watch Terence Malik's "Badlands" for a while, and Sissy Spacek's performance as Holly is incredible and fascinating. It's like "Wizard of Oz" in a weird way, and really, I would pay to see a take on Wizard of Oz where Holly is the one who goes to Oz rather than Dorothy.

Watching Michael Mann’s “The Keep,” and it occurred to me that the last time I saw it was on VHS with my first wife at the recommendation of her father, who was always kind of a nerd. The VinSyn 4k looks great.

i think it is important to clarify that this — the exclusionary distribution of benefits on some sort of ethnic or national basis — isn’t socialism. it’s, you know, something else.
After years of talking to Trump supporters my view of them has become very simple: They want socialist, even sometimes progressive reforms but they want them from someone who makes those reforms feel powerful and masculine and they want to make sure the people they don't like don't benefit from them

BREAKING: CEO shooter Luigi Mangione once participated in a ritual game where participants slowly hanged a man by guessing the letters of a secret word

Minnie always does a lot of work wadding up her blanket, and she always finds the result disappointing.

I finished the Daiei Gothic set and turned out to have watched in increasing order of quality: "Ghost of Yotsuya" < "Bride from Hades" <<<< "The Snow Woman". "The Snow Woman" was absolutely lovely. <3

Ultimately it doesn’t matter who the shooter was. He was never going to be a perfect person who aligned with your exact politics. An insurance CEO got got. If he were hit by a city bus instead, I’d shake that busses hand and make a reservation for 2 at Gramercy Tavern under the name “M72 hero.”

Watching Herzog's "Nosferatu", and it's really interesting how the Enlightenment man of science, Van Helsing, comes across as a mumbling, senile old man, and how ultimately the attempt to destroy evil is futile. Loved Isabelle Adjani and Bruno Ganz in it.

pretty grim when health insurance company executives have to try to hide their identities online like they're public school history teachers, government employees or doctors who care for transgender people
United Health just deleted this page from their website lol
