one of the weirdest things abt online art discourse esp around music is the total antipathy to comparison, like as if comparing/finding connections is this violent move done to diminish the sacred individuality of a piece of work (or worse, the artist)

used to think saying continental phil = obscurantist was a silly dismissal (and in a lot of cases is just that), but now i do think there's some truth to it, at least to the extent it's largely a heideggerian tradition, so you get this like moral imperative to speak your own language

anytime i look at twitter now just get totally assailed with fakedeep banalities about 'ai', 'slop', 'content', quote tweets of some tiktok vid, bla bla whatever. dont need to see postgrads tweeting """culture is vapid""" in various new and exciting ways

i think i dont rlly like 'meta' plots bcos they're often just way too cut and dry. a sort of cinemasins desire to banish contradiction and indeterminacy from art, that u could theoretically sweep away all the grit and friction of form/content to reach some smooth state of perfect unity.

I do get why so much art is made under the paradigm of representation, but it's a dangerous game to play. the art/life distinction is something that needs to be affirmed rather than dissolved (probs the biggest point of friction ive been feeling w/ a lot of 20thc stuff lately)

So much writing on music/art/reviews etc is basically unreadable bcos so much of it is sort of like, admonishing something for not existing *as if* it had sprung out of a utopia — equally so many things are praised for basically pretending the world is in the right state for 'expression'.
