This should be a fantastic hour of guided writing on the theme A Moment of Silence, with poet and editor @lisadmkelly.bsky.social , exploring the idea that silence can be as important as speech in communication, and responding in poetry, life writing, fiction or a mixture!

I'm excited to be joining the teaching team @writingroomorguk.bsky.social & running 'A Moment of Silence' in March. You can find out more about all the available courses to carve out some writing time, welcoming writers at all levels & writing in all disciplines.

THE RESURRECTION – Aoife Sadlier
Old Jim surveyed the crab through the porthole opening of the plastic bag. It was wriggling and writhing, as if freshly electrocuted. It was brown and speckled and shiny and hard. He was sure of those...

Great new blog post on our website by new writer Kathryn Bodenham - blog.writingroom.org.uk

“Everyone has a book in them.”
I’ve heard that so many times. Could it be true? Could I be harbouring the Next Great Novel? If I was, I was keeping it so well hidden, I didn’t know it was there…

Thought I'd share the process questions for this morning's Start Your Writing Week - the first of the term and of 2024.
Do answer them if you want to!

Is January 1st different for you to any other 1st of the month?

Writing Roomers take note! It's always inspiring to see someone getting an acceptance. Really worth sending your work out because you never know!
Woke up to my first acceptance of 2024! 🙌🏻

It’s been a while since I’ve submitted anything since I took a hiatus while focusing on my recent novel’s release, so I’m thrilled to be starting the New Year off strong.

I love these lines - both the written lines and the lines in the sky! 🌟✏️💛
How many lines have YOU written this morning? asks Mother Nature. Not many, I reply, I’m too busy reading yours in the sky.

Very excited for members of our lovely Writing Room team! Our editing tutor Jenny Parrott is Editor at Oneworld, the indie press which published this year's Booker winner! And our children's/YA tutor Sita Brahmachari has just been made Fellow of the Royal Societ of Literature. CONGRATS TO BOTH!! 🌟

Would love to read BOTH these books! (Christmas list...) So happy #TheOldie ❤️ featured them. This what independent presses need the most as marketing budgets are small or non-existant. When Ambit magazine had to stop printing, it got a bit of press. But press was needed before that point! 🙃
“Little Toller Books are always beautiful - Inside and out”

Thanks so much to the #TheOldie for picking two of our books in their roundup for Christmas.

All Around The Year by Michael Morpurgo and David Crouch and Colin Ward’s ‘irresistible’ The Allotment.

Perfection in a spider's web! Thanks @gladlib.bsky.social - many of our Writing Room writers are hoping to visit you one day, minibeasts or no minibeasts! #WritingCommunity #Writers #CreativeWriting
We don't go in very much for Hallowe'en decorations, but fortunately, a garden spider kindly added a seasonal touch to our flowerbed. You shouldn't find any webs in the building, though!
