Devourer of books & spiller of words.📚🫠

Going back to school for my MFA in Writing. Looking to form community with other writers & aficionados of books. My writing is of the off-kilter science & speculative fiction/fantasy/horror persuasion.

if it helps - and it genuinely has for me! - try thinking of everything you do to take care of your heart, mind & body to ensure your own well-being as a tiny way to steal his life force, eat up one of his last days on earth and give it to yourself, because you MUST OUTLIVE HIM to dance on his grave
it’s going to be so much fun when he dies

Lydia, thank you for a fantastic workshop! You’ve provided a lot of wonderful insight on how to take more risks with my writing outside my comfort zone.

Soaking up all the writerly vibes at my first writing residency! The lodge where all this writing is taking place is so warm and just gorgeous.

Tender is the Flesh by Augustina Bazterrica will stay with me for a while. Not an easy read—not because it isn’t well written, but because it is unrelenting in its description of the processing & use of “special meat.” May your stomach (& faith in humanity) remain stalwart while reading it, or not.🥩

I like to read some non-fiction alongside fiction. Ramani Durvasula’s “It’s Not You” was personally helpful, but also a great reference for writing credible narcissistic characters.

Do y’all like to read psychology (AKA self-help) to help formulate characters?

I don’t care what anybody says—I’m using semicolons and em dashes; I shall use them gratuitously and obnoxiously henceforth.
Semi-colon party all night long!
Say what?
Semi-colon party all night long!!
Today, on Shirley Jackson’s birthday, let’s all marvel at one of the greatest opening paragraphs ever written (from THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE)

Thinking about the horror community and what brings it together. Look at Emily Hughes’s Horror List as an example of endless hours of selfless work to compile an exhaustive list of every book out in ‘25. Wanna talk true horror heroes? I’d put Emily at the top: readjumpscares.com/2025s-new-ho...

Gimbal turned one year old today! And as is customary of queer folks, we celebrated with the same enthusiasm we’d bestow a toddler of similar age (if we had one).

I love to do this—very easy process.
If you’re looking for a free way to support an author, did you know you can ask your library to stock a book you want to read that they don’t have yet? And usually it’s a very basic online form? Google your library name plus the words “request a title” or “suggest a title” to find yours.

So glad our local, independent bookstore (The Bookworm) welcomes dogs so that Gimbal has another cozy environment to take a nap while I buy all the books.

Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed.

(Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).

Anyone else’s dog demand to thoroughly sniff your book before you are allowed to continue reading it? Yes? No? Just mine?
Gimbal loves the whiff of a good book (especially library books). 🤤

Hello, new social media app that I hope doesn’t just gather dust in my phone like those other potential slayers of that *other* platform. 🤞
