Intro Pinned Post:

I am a solo game developer working on an abandoned mall game where you take pictures of things while surviving a group of monsters

I post showcases almost every Saturday so please give a follow if you're interested!

I'm finally ready to show some stuff for my next project, remember this is all prototype placeholder stuff, but this is the gist of it

The scope of this project is very small, and no I won't explain what's going on

I dont think I'll ever get tired of how rewarding it feels when you connect all these systems together that took so long to make and it just ends up working (fingers crossed) and interacting with eachother to make something cohesive

I'll share the first proto type of this new project soonish

I've been distracted on another, much smaller, gaming related project, I think the premise is pretty interesting, still prototyping though (unique controls are a pain to code)

Its got some micro management, point and click/motion, and added spookiness to an otherwise mundane task

Me trying to replicate simple physics by using GDScripts lerp functions when there's a physics engine right in front of me

I shouldn't code this late...

Something funny I ended up doing just in-case I forgot to include a sound for a material, it plays a certain sound

So if your footsteps end up sounding a little strange in the final product... my mistake 😂

Making a system for material based footstep sounds in Godot was a lot more complicated than I thought it would be

Practicing some lighting techniques, I'm using the light object's distance fade params to try and achieve a stylized effect

In the video, the lights in the distance slowly turn on as the player gets closer

This also has a performance bonus so thats cool too 😀

So I have this weird bug with my particles in my game where they'll sometimes freeze in place (I think its due to me disabling the object before the particles finish), and this time they froze in a special way that made them look like eyes and it scared me for a second

For the past 5 years I've been slowly losing the drive to watch these videogame presentation shows, this one might've been the final nail in the coffin

Hey, Google Play gave me $2 to spend. Anyone around here got an Android game I can buy?

Any of y'all have methods for your madness?

I don't think I have any other than my good music tracks are made past 1am

Why did I decide to make a horror game, I get scared by ANYTHING

I keep jumpscaring myself 😭

I think I'm starting to get good at the vibe I'm heading for, it almost really looks like what you'd expect if someone were to take a photo during urban exploration
(minus the funny bird, floating object, and money on the ground)

It's been almost my 1st anniversary since I began working on my game Photophantasma, kinda wild

I think I've learned my lesson on scope-creep and pre planning as much as possible, hopefully I can be more efficient in the future as a game dev

Haven't been active lately on here, but I've been making some nice progress in my game Photophantasma (I don't know if I made an official name drop)

This is the game over sequence, text isn't final but I want it to give at least a similar message to this

Working on some SFX and a new enemy, these squares are supposed to be giant air ducts, I wonder what's in them? 🤨

I got some cool stuff to share for #screenshotsaturday

It's not much but I've been messing with baked lighting and I think I can pull off some cool stuff with it in the future

I've had a bug for months in my code where the photocam would jitter back and forth from the threshold of being pushed against collision

Turns out I just had to increase that threshold number by 0.25 and it works flawlessly

Do I know why this fixed it? Nope!
Some neat mechanics (although needs some polish) for #screenshotsaturday

I tried to make a more realistic method of making sure the lens can't clip through geometry by pushing back the camera. I used a single raycast to get this to work, might need more to make it more accurate

A few days ago Hakita the creator of ULTRAKILL released an almost 2 hour video on his insight of videogame creation

As a new gamedev it's helped me realize how I should approach my projects better

Here's the video for anyone interested

When I feel the need for a "hard mental reset" I like to socially lock myself away and play a JRPG, and then when I finish it, my outlook on life feels different if that makes any sense

Other games like Signalis and Tunic have done this to me as well

Does anyone else do something similar?

Honestly one of my pet peeves that I see on Tiktok as well, people are self censoring words that they don't even know if it's allowed on the platform or not, afraid to be "shadow-banned" from the algorithm

Why are we so accepting of this? Advertiser guidelines should not control how we speak
