A great article by @nicolecarpenter.bsky.social on how intimacy is portrayed, motion captured and visualised in videogames.
I've long argued the sentiment that "Sex is a huge part of life, and it feels strange when art ignores that"

*Great* news!
“Yippee ki-yay…”

We are excited to tell everyone that Westminster Council decided on May 1st that the Prince Charles Cinema would be included in the list of Assets of Community Value maintained by the Council under section 87 of the Localism Act 2011.

Hey Bluesky, I’m running a workshop on characterisation for games, animation and audiodramas, and you can come if you like!

It’s part of the One Voice Conference in London, Fri 16th May, but you don’t need a conference ticket to come, workshops sold separately.

What I like about role-playing games is that they allow you to act out power fantasies that you could never achieve in real life.

Great advice. Finding support networks in any creative industry is vital. And if you can say ‘hey, I know someone!’ people (in my exp) will do the same for you.
Actual pro tip: the best way to break into any creative profession is by helping to support and advance other creators. Your peers are not your adversaries. They are your support group.

I am going to say something radically optimistic:

The ONLY way we get through this is by countering individualism with enduring community. And I believe that most people want to be in communities that care for each other.

The parade of useless tech-in-search-of-a-problem and rampant VC yes-man-ing has basically driven the Western tech industry into the ground. It's so embarrassing. I can't allow myself to think about where that funding could have gone or else I'd lose my mind

In slightly less grumbly doom and gloom news, the D&D group I play with is back to streaming tonight after a well earned festive rest and we've got some Good Nonsense ™️ lined up this year (made by people, not AI)
We are back after our holiday break, heres what's happening on Roll Together this week

very easy to get caught up in the loud obnoxious grifter assholes who decry “wokeness” & complain representation is ruining their “hobby” but the thing that matters is, a bunch of people chanting TRANS RIGHTS raise $2mil+ for great charities twice a year, every year. that’s what it’s all about
Games Done Quick this year has been a great reminder that videogame culture - the actual culture, not aggrieved incels on Youtube - is pretty fucking cool.

You'll never hear about some grifter raising millions for charity to riotous applause.

A man in Indiana made an AT-AT costume for his horse, intending to only get a few pictures before removing it. When he took off the headpiece the horse got upset and insisted that he put it back on, which made the horse happy again. Now the horse isn't allowing him to remove any piece of the costume

It’s cool how to be a writer you can’t just write, you have to spend your whole life building audiences in sandcastles that powerful people can kick down in an instant

Elsa and I spent the last year building something of our own, organically & painstakingly. Now Instagram & this.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

The loss of solid middle class incomes for the mid list in all creative endeavors is a choice, a choice made by the people who dominate publishing, journalism, cinema, TV, music … and it doesn’t have to be this way.
“People have a false you impression of what the average, what I call middle-class actor makes and their ability to make a living in the industry. So that’s what drove me to work at Trader Joe’s to begin with. Honestly, I’m not much better off now than I was then.” (“then” being 2018 viral TJ photo)

The reason we don't have a robust and curious games media to tackle the subject of why video games have become unsustainable is basically the same reason why video games have become unsustainable. It's an industry built to protect the profits of a handful of rich men, and the NYTimes are in on it.
