Those soft, layered, undulations seem quite rhythmic to me. So far, this is one of my favourite images from last week's unintentionally extended North Uist sessions, as it both abstracts, and suggests, the subject simultaneously (I hope!). #icmphotography #impressionism #nikonz7ii #scottishlandscape

An #icmphotography image I created last week on the Isle of Lewis. This felt like a special time and space - middle of the afternoon with an expansive beach, devoid of people, and approaching dark clouds. Purists might note some intentional compositional tension and resolution! #seascapes

Oh, the Hebrides! One of the best places in the UK to move from 50mph winds and lashing rain to a light breeze and watery sunshine in 5 minutes.... and back again just as quickly. A bit of long exposure #ICMPhotography from one of yesterday's respites on Great Bernera. #elementsmagazine #greatberner

A little series of #Puffin images taken at the weekend on the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast in the UK. It's a much bigger colony now than I remember from a decade ago, making it a great place to experience these busy birds during the breeding season. #naturephotography #birds #birdphoto

2025 seems to be dominated by preening types that deceive vulnerable and less powerful individuals. I'm talking about the Cuckoo😊. I saw 4 separate Cuckoos over the moors in 30 minutes on Saturday morning - a first - including these 2 that seem to court AND fight! #cuckoos @yorkshiredales.org.uk

I've just launched a new full-day photography workshop in the upper dales for bird photographers. Think Curlew, Lapwing, Wheatear, Red Grouse, etc. in the stunning scenery of the moors and valleys of Wensleydale & Swaledale. Just search Atkins on craftcourses.com #birdphotography #photoworkshops

'Shimmer'. Iridescent Lapwing. I guess this could be a #WednesdayWader even if it's from last Friday😀. Taken in unseasonably warm weather on Redmire Moor in North Yorkshire. #birds #britishbirds #wadingbirds @yorkshiredales.org.uk @nikoneurope.bsky.social

With the weather cooling but still fine, why not join me and a host of other excellent craftspeople at Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn tomorrow. It's their annual Spring Fair and only on for one day! #tennants #craftfairs #leyburn @yorkshiredales.org.uk

Today I reached 3k followers, something that would be unheard of for me on Facebook. I’ve always been a social media failure and often that has made me question my work. Thank you for the likes, shares, and comments. They mean a lot to me.

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

3 bird-in-flight images from yesterday's wander across Grinton & Redmire Moors (twixt Swaledale and Wensleydale). Ring Ouzel, Golden Plover and Red Grouse. Particularly pleased to get the GPs, as there aren't too many about. #birds #BIF #birdphotography #nikon @yorkshiredales.org.uk

Here's another image of the lekking Black Grouse from a couple of days ago. I was pretty happy with this action shot, as it was 6.15am and pretty murky, with ISO6400 needed for a vaguely acceptable shutter speed! As ever, a distance shot from the car. @yorkshiredales.org.uk #wharfedale #birdphoto

One of my ICM (intentional camera movement) images was chosen for the 2025 edition of Aire Place Studios' Print It! exhibition and book, which was nice (sorry for that fast Show reference!). #icmphotography #seascapes

Took some bird snappers for some more Black Grouse antics early this morning. As per usual, 100m from the lek inside a vehicle and we left after the lek finished. Bitterly cold wind but the grouse aren't bothered! #birds #blackgrouse #yorkshirebirding #birdphotography @yorkshiredales.org.uk

It's never a bad hare day when you come across one of these! An early encounter c.6.45am this morning on a moorland road above #Wharfdale. Nikon z8 + z 180-600mm. The hare was unaware of the photographers in the car until it heard the 10 frames a second clicking away! #nikonpro #wildlifephotography
