If the governor wants Oregon "open for business" we can totally do that w/o making massive concessions or trying to woo corporate immigration from other states.

How about supporting a few thousand 20-person businesses instead of a few 20,000-person businesses?

Wouldn't that be more stable?

Every mortgage issued is 30 years of rent control, effectively. Tenants should have the same economic predictability.

Another great example (along with employer-subsidized health insurance) of how massive welfare programs have been around in the US for a long time... but only for some people (not even ultra rich!).
Every mortgage issued is 30 years of rent control, effectively. Tenants should have the same economic predictability.

Perfect opportunity to save millions of dollars in decommissioning costs for the natural gas system, but the utility regulators are not required to responsibly manage the energy transition and are handsomely rewarded by the industry they supposedly oversee - so they will not.

I wonder if there's a curiosity on-ramp to get a bunch of the excited urbanists out there to also be excited about agriculture policy.

Precisely. With the vaccine-hesitant, I’m very careful and respectful However, it’s no quarter for antivax influencers and grifters who spread (and profit from) the disinformation that fuels vaccine hesitancy. bsky.app/profile/tara...
To be clear, there’s a big difference between criticizing the anti-vaccine movement & discrediting their influencers/leaders vs shaming vax-hesitant or quietly vax-refusing parents. The latter backfires; the former is essential. But SciComm folks often conflate them. Cc @ryanmarino.bsky.social

The best thing I did for my mental health this year was convert some doomscrolling time to finding a local org where I could start learning how to support organizing/political work.

I knew social media distorted perception, but I drastically under-estimated the magnitude of the effect. Un-isolate!

EVERY house we looked at in altadena had a high fire risk, so we looked and bought in Pasadena even though there was less inventory. EVERY house i looked at in Altadena burned in Eaton, four weeks after we closed. Eaton missed our house by five blocks.

the risk rating worked. shame it’s gone.
Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!
