With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

The Steam Machine will live or die on its pricing, I think, but it's hard not to be bullish. SteamOS is fantastic and the Steam Deck has been my most-used gaming machine since it came out nearly four years ago

This new Japan-only Playstation is priced lower than the cost of an Xbox Series S in Sweden.

Many friends and myself as well didn’t jump on the PS5 because of the hardware cost, waiting for cheaper hardware such as this. Too bad it won’t show its head in Europe.
PS5 Digital Edition Japan-only model announced

Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia has announced a Japanese-language-only SKU for PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. It will launch on November 21 for 55,000 (tax included), with pre-orders opening on November 13.

When working on improving accessibility on Crusader Kings III, "Nested Tooltips" was one of the key features the team had very high expectations on. Seems like they might have spent some time in the same bars as @greenheartgames.bsky.social !

Could getting drunk actually be an evolutionary benefit ? I’m not saying it, @bigthink.com is.
The "intoxication thesis": The evolutionary benefits of getting drunk
Our body's reward system is intended to encourage certain behaviors. But is alcohol a mistake or one more evolutionary gift?

Very interesting read about the book publishing industry, with many paralells with what’s happening nowadays in games, via @thewalrus.ca

Our landlord added new art inside the shared toilets in the office building and well… it hits a little close to home sometimes.

Finished #Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Took me forever to get past the prologue, but then I couldn’t put it down. A deep and well-balanced cRPG. Very well done @owlcatgames.bsky.social

I might go back and play some more of these Pathfinder games now…

In an age where publishers are staying as far as they can from any type of risk, remakes/remasters couldn’t be more appealing. Some interesting data in this report.
MTM: Remakes & Remasters in 2025
R&R (new abbreviation for me!) sometimes showing better performance than originals, and generally less risky for developers & publishers.

Finished reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It was incredibly beautiful, poetic and sad. Also very much a recommended read for our times.

Well this looks really cool.
"'The more we try to understand what's going on in the world around us—the more we don't just withdraw into a hermitude of my family and I as a nuclear unit, the more we try to understand our society—I think the more these kinds of games speak to us,' Short said."
Founder of Dwarf Fortress and Caves of Qud publisher Kitfox Games says its procgen sims for sickos are 'giving storytelling tools back to the people when games and passive media took them away'
Streets of Fortuna, Kitfox's own in-development "megasim," is chasing that same systems-driven storytelling.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

It’s official: EA is going private.

The leveraged buyout will be financed by a staggering $20 billion of debt, which likely means some *aggressive* cost cutting is ahead for EA in the coming months and years.
