Why is RTE uncritically reporting this bullshit ? What evidence has Denis O'Brien, tax exile in Portugal, produced ? What commercial property does Denis O'Brien own that might influence what he says on working from home ? Since when did he care about the civil service ?

President Michael D. Higgins has left Áras an Uachtaráin for the final time this evening, closing the chapter on 14 years in office.

Before departing, President Higgins was presented with flowers by a member of the Sanctuary Runners, of which he was a patron.

What an amazing essay from the former chair of Africana Studies at Bowdoin. I'll share a few sections in the reply but seriously, read the whole thing. It's all insightful and beautifully written.

Irish people are embracing the language, the music, the heritage etc. from a place of deficit forced on them by colonialism. They are reclaiming what's theirs, which is healthy & shows a maturing society, distancing itself from colonial attitudes towards native culture.

Context: Someone sat down and, honest to god, wrote a column about the fact that last weekend the newly elected Uachtarán na hÉireann (President of Ireland), Catherine Connolly, spoke *too much* Irish during her acceptance speech, and this made the columnist uncomfortable.
