Almost done with 2025 and so The Gentle People’s ‘Journey’ must be THIRTY YEARS OLD by now. Link is 41000 views in ten years, mostly by me.

On the success of the Dutch apple cake: Pear cake, flan, pie… I’ve got a glut of pears and someone posted a pear pudding recipe on here and I can’t remember who. Anyone? TIA!

I built a linux Spotify kiosk from an old Mac mini and unexpected consequences: cringeing at a 2017 playlist I made when the madness was at its height. It’s good to remembeNO IT ISN’T.

After a few days of testing GPT-4 and GPT-5 to get some simple low-code automations built: 4 is much more ‘to the point’ but runs out of road quickly. 5 is verbose, loves a rabbithole, and seems to be trying to keep me engaged, rather than fix problems (and both have shat the bed).

Bestall’s landscapes, skies, menagerie of freaks &c all imprinted on my tiny brain starting with Rupert and the Paper-fall ~ 1970. Nobody did it better.
Alfred Bestall's brilliant art for the end papers of 1970's Rupert Annual. AB was coming to the end of his 37 year tenure on the Annuals, but you’d never know it by looking at this fabulous work.

trying to wean myself off nasal inhaler thingies, wondering how long this will take before I’m clean: I’m getting a headache from trying to pull air through my nostrils.
