Someone in my family asked me what I wanted for Christmas and for the first time in my life I straight up told them the specific thing I’d like to receive that I’d actually use and enjoy. I wonder if I will get it? We shall see if this strategy works.

Today I took a boat to a small island accessible only by water, hiked, enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine and then went out to lunch for what has to be the best, freshest, local hogfish I’ve ever had. When I tell you this fish was good I say it with REVERENCE.

Ok hear me out- I made a savory yogurt bowl. Yogurt and fruit and granola is fine, but a non sweet version is unexpectedly amazing. Plain Greek yogurt, a pile of roasted potatoes, tons of chives, chopped tomato, cucumber, dill, plenty of salt and pepper, drizzle of olive oil. This was SPECTACULAR.

Visited a children’s hospital today where my daughter participated in a Thanksgiving parade and sang to the kids. It was a very proud moment for me, but also very sobering. It changes your perspective to see toddlers going through chemo smiling bc your daughter is singing Frozen songs to them.

I asked my daughter to make the Thanksgiving menu this year and this is what she came up with. I think it’s pretty legit. I love how she specified that she did not want a homemade apple pie. 😂

Last night my daughter(15 yrs) told me that her friend group always keeps extra spots open at their lunch table in case other students don’t have anyone to sit with. If they see someone they invite them to their table. Definitely one of my proudest moments as a mom.

Ran into Trader Joe’s yesterday for some basil and they were sampling their pumpkin pie, served with whipped cream, so I tried it. When I tell you this was the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had I am not exaggerating. Better than homemade and now I’m rethinking my Thanksgiving dessert plans. 🥧

We may have gone too far with the pumpkin spice. My car wash is advertising pumpkin spice soap in the drive-thru, plus pumpkin spice air freshener at the vacuum stations. But then I realized it actually does smell good, so what do I know?

I went to an amazing Mexican brunch and tried a Cafe de Olla fir the 1st time. It’s a traditional Mexican coffee, no cream, with lots of warm spices (cinnamon, clove, anise, orange), and very sweetened with piloncillo (kinda like brown sugar). Oh my word. It was HEAVENLY.

It’s nice out so I have the windows open and one of my neighbors is having an absolute fit of sneezing. They have scream sneezed at least ten times in the past two minutes. I’ve never heard anything like it. They need a Claritin.

I’m done, people. I just saw a fitness influencer making hot chocolate with chicken broth as the base. At the very least, on a positive note, I’m glad it didn’t involve cottage cheese. But if I have to make chicken hot chocolate, I will elect to stay fat.

Someone, whom I’ve not yet identified, sent me 3 kiwi fruit vines in the mail for my birthday! I’ll be planting them by my fence tomorrow. That was a neat gift! 🥝

One bit of nonsense that I can share is that conspiracy insanity on social media has convinced my mom that I am actually an alien because I have A- blood. She has rh+ blood and has always been perplexed/fascinated that I’m rh-. She thinks I have latent psychic powers. Alas, I do not. 👽 🩸

I always thought black accessories with navy clothes was a fashion faux pas but turns out it can work. I wore a navy sweater with maroon pants today. Black ballet flats and a black purse really looked good with it.

A couple of my students were raving about The Women by Kristin Hannah and how it made them love reading. It’s not the usual thing I’d pick but I wanted to read it to show them I listen to them and value their opinions. And you all. I love this book. It is so good. I can’t put it down.

I took down my Halloween decor and did a full turnover to Thanksgiving. I’m sort of impressed with my efficiency here. I also purged a ton of junk I’d been needlessly storing and donated it all. That was a relief.
