@chrisgpackham.bsky.social Currently in our "Red Hot Pokers with The Woodies" season here nr St Asaph. The Greater Spotted Woodpeckers take 2-3 weeks to strip our red hot pokers bare. Usually single birds but this year up to 3 at a time! It's a spectacle! What are they after? Pollen or insects?

My wife is a veterinarian, which means a lot of her training focused on food safety. Ranchers operate on razor-thin margins and if they see a chance to cut corners on a good safety practice, they'll take it. She's American and won't touch American meat right now for any reason.
