Aftermath of a car crash in Utrecht, Netherlands:
*The street is closed off to cars.
*Police measure angles of impact and look for possible causes (to prevent future crashes).
*Officers politely summarize the incident with people walking & rolling by.

How are car crashes evaluated in YOUR city?

This photograph series by Mark Cowan documents a phenomenon called 'lachryphagy' ("tear-feeding").

The caiman excretes salt in their tears & the butterflies need the precious minerals for their metabolism & reproduction.

So, they're feeding on crocodilian tears.

The US led the way in fighting malnutrition, and USAID provided a miracle peanut paste that brings kids back from the brink -- until now. Starvation is a problem that we can actually solve, but we're now retreating from the fight. Here's what I found in West Africa: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/18/o...

Don't ever tell a cargo bike person they can't haul something. 😂
Ooh, I've never thought about the dollar amount that I've fit on my bike... I love riding with big awkward loads though. One of my faves: two air purifiers & my almost-8-year-old 😁

Our first-past-the-post voting system makes cities seem more uniformly left-wing than they are in reality, and makes rural areas seem more uniformly right-wing than they really are.
At a time when we need unity, first-past-the-post is pulling us apart.

When a system keeps locking regions into one-party representation, voices are silenced and resentment grows.

We can't wait any longer. Demand proportional representation.

Some of you may go without access to shelter, but that is a sacrifice the Kitsilano Coalition is willing to make.

The Vancouver SkyTrain gets really good ridership numbers for the length of the system and size of the metro area.

Part of this is fast, frequent, automated service. But another part is that they’ve built a ton of density at many (though not all) stations.
Did you know Metro Vancouver is THE North American hotbed for dense transit-oriented development? I’ll be touring a group of municipal leaders from Ontario for 3.5 days next month, riding trains & walking transformed station areas. Was out today scouting with colleagues at @movementYVR.bsky.social!

We do not eat a credit card’s worth of plastic a week. This doesn’t pass even the most basic sniff test but also the paper everyone is quoting doesn’t even say that we ingest that much plastic and I’m sick of hearing it in credible places!!!

If we’re being honest, the biggest threat to urban livability isn’t density or height. It’s the noise, danger, pollution, and wasted space that comes from prioritizing cars above all other modes of transport.
