That time of the year when we celebrate the cozy winter village and worship the bustling holiday markets, streets, shops, restaurants and a vibrant outdoor life full of community & togetherness that we continually refuse to support, approve or build for everyday life.

I saw way too much stuff like this when I visited earlier this year. On the plus side, Toronto doesn’t have weird masked kidnappers running around

A city of drivers expands, rapidly and inevitably, into sprawl.

A city of pedestrians, cyclists, and transit-users settles gradually and elegantly into itself.

"The current bridge with 8 lanes of traffic was not needed, it was previously designed for a freeway system that never was built. 2 lanes are now allocated for bike and pedestrians, providing another safer connection to the downtown core."

Almost everything "illegal" I do on a bike is a direct result of the roads being designed for cars only.

No bike lane on a busy road? Ride on the sidewalk.
Stop signs on every block slowing your momentum? Treat them as yield signs.
No way to make a left turn? Use the crosswalk to set up the left.
Most complaints about “cyclists behaving badly” ignore the built environment those riders are navigating. People generally respond to the conditions they’re given. If the design is flawed, behavior will reflect that.

More people need to learn to recognize this.
