Seconded, had it 20 years ago, shingles suuuuucks! Excruciatingly painful and can lead to scarring, nerve damage and sensory loss (depending on the area affected).
I had shingles in my early teen years. I cannot express to you how badly you do not want to get shingles. get the fucking vaccine.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Maybe if TERFs stopped bringing vexacious legal cases to try to hound trans people out of public life, we wouldn't have such a massive jury trial backlog.

Is there a non-gendered honoric equivalent to sir/ma'am/miss to use in situations where that's expected? Or should we just be dropping these outdated courtesies anyway?
Young people at the college I’m placed at have been so conditioned by school to say “miss!”. I have told them repeatedly that I prefer Ash/Ashleigh or even ”oi you”, but it is still hard for them to break their programming. 😑

Fascinating thread, but weirdly the opposite of my experience - also boomer parents but they had grown up in poverty. I was raised to never live beyond my means, never buy "on tick" & save as much as possible. I still had tough times financially but that ethos stopped me ending up in debt.
My parents were free-wheeling Boomers convinced things were only ever going to get better, financially. They had good reason, then. They could afford a house, car, and weekly nights out on two full time assistant manager jobs at a fast food chain. But they also got caught up in emulating wealth trap

Cruelty is anhedonic. It rarely delivers the euphoria promised because, in the abstract, what feels righteous and joyful inevitably reveals itself to be sordid and small. Then it's "No not like that". "No not enough". "No the real battle, the forever war to make this feel good starts now". Forever.
Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.

I wish Livejournal was still A Thing because someone bet me £50 about 15 years ago that Segways (and their bastard offspring the hoverboard) would be "the future of transportation". I said they'd all be in landfill or the back of the shed within six months. Could really use that £50!
Younger people who didn't witness it cannot fathom the hype around the Segway. Every news station agreed it would revolutionize the entire social fabric of the Earth. That all future humans would divide history between the savage days of the past, and the soon to be new era of zoom zoom scoot scoot.
