Ok Bluesky nature peeps, help me out with a discussion on FB.
The claim is that several places (PA, VA, MI, Chicago) have “released” coyotes to deal with cats, raccoons, deer, etc. Yet no documentation is ever cited. I say “urban myth” but does any have a source that says different?

Are there any legends or myths from your home town?

I grew up in St Andrews and this is about Patrick Hamilton who was burned at the stake in front of St Salvator's Chapel.

His face appeared on the wall as he died.

And legend is if you stand on his initials you will fail your exams.

“Faxlore” is even its own subcategory within folkloristics. A lot of folks within a few years of my age may remember childhood warnings about “blue star acid” or “Mickey Mouse acid,” which was a prominent example of faxlore urban legend / misinformation
There was a time when people shared “click bait”-type misinformation… by fax (and before that, by photocopier)

The social, psychological, and storytelling dynamics were similar; the distribution speed was different

Today is the day my dad learned it's an urban legend for Texas schoolchildren that Ima Hogg had a sister named Ura

I'm trying to explain to the non-Texan how all kids learn this in school and Dad interrupts to go "what do you mean Ura isn't real?!"

This joke has been entertaining kids for DECADES

Leyendas de Guatemala by Antonio Rosales

La Llarona, Cadejo (black dog), El Sombreron, La Siguanaba, and La Tatuana are in his mural.

Most would be "urban legends" in North America as they are living stories with sources just out of reach.

This will be a days-long thread #folklore #urbanlegend

The old AN/FPS-35 radar was one of the largest air defense radars ever produced in the 60s. This old Montauk fixture may be falling apart and fading away, but the stories and urban legends remain. Did you know they partly inspired the Stranger Things show?

This a Gen X urban legend. 😂
😆

My brother tried to convince me that if you sneeze, fart and burp at the same time, you will die. First of all, I believe that's physically impossible and 2) I also believe his source was MAD magazine. 😎

Gotta say this pings my urban legend radar a tad.
Perez (my rep) is not as progressive as I'd like, but I recognize what district I'm in. Gotta move the local culture left to get someone more left than her in.

That said, I'm glad people are talking to her because this is exactly the kind of victory Dems need to retake majorities.

Just your annual reminder that ‘needle spiking’ is an urban myth. There’s been no proven cases (outside of the spy world) I can find anywhere in the world. Public and authorities need to focus on the real spiking threats eg drink spiking.

We have enough birds, cats, and horses.

Y’all ever heard the urban legend surrounding this guy?? Legend has it that when he just started out he wasn’t good, then he later made a deal with the devil and that’s how he got those skills…Look, I’m sure this man practiced and practiced but hey urban legends are fun lol
88 years ago today, Robert Johnson stepped into a San Antonio hotel room and changed music forever. His first recording session and recorded blues classics like 'Sweet Home Chicago,' 'Terraplane Blues,' and 'I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom.' The birth of a legend.

I have a few books on urban legends, one is heavy with tales that originated in the United Kingdom and it is incredible how many are clearly just about racism and xenophobia. A popular one is about Asian gangs having an initiation rite where they castrate little white boys in public restroom stalls.
