Before and after of the carapace break of an eastern box turtle. This guy was lucky enough to be in and out in the same season since this and the plastron break, not shown, were relatively uncomplicated and he was taken to a rehabber quickly. He gets to go home today. #turtlerehab

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Thanks to some dedicated rehabbers & volunteers, you can visit & learn about turtles at 2 events tomorrow (8/17)! If you’re by the shoreline, come to the Whitfield Museum in Guilford, & if you’re more northerly, head over to Riverside Reptiles in Enfield. Both’ll be fabulous!

In less than 24 hours, you have the chance to meet some real turtles and learn about what goes into turtle rehab. I’m giving a talk at the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library tomorrow (Thursday, May 8th) at 6:30pm. Free! This one is geared towards adults. Hope to see you there!

By popular demand, we now have a Venmo account! If you want to donate to help save turtles, our Venmo is @turtlehavenct (It may also come up with our founder’s name, Angelina). If you have trouble finding/using it, email us at info@turtlehavenct.org , which is also how you can donate to us on PayPal

Release day for Firecracker, a juvenile eastern box turtle who was hit by a lawnmower 9 months ago and is healed enough to return to the wild. We’ll miss you, but are so glad you are back home where you belong.

Nothing like lugging a 25-lb turtle almost a mile to its release location. My wagon made it so much easier though. Great x-mas present, super useful. Be free buddy!

Ah, spring cleaning…out with the old, in with the even older?

The 1st pic is of Andre, a 30lb snapper in his 50s+ who had to be overwintered from a dog attack. Today he was released. The 2nd pic is of our newest patient, 42lbs & 70+ years old. He has severe head trauma & is getting rest & medicine.

Spring is here, and pretty soon you will start seeing turtles emerging from their winter sleep. Painted turtle hatchlings are usually the first out, as they spend winter frozen in their nest. Many people think these babies are helpless orphans, but they are not. Leave them be. DO NOT STEAL THEM!

Today is #worldwildlifeday & what better way to shell-ebrate than w/a beautiful wild turtle. This #spottedturtle is #endangered which is largely due to habitat loss, road mortality, & poaching. They prefer shallow wetlands, which are particularly susceptible to pollution & targeted for destruction.

Still getting used to this Bluesky thing. Here’s a picture of one of the 63 turtles we helped last season, which is more than twice as many as any previous year. I couldn’t have done it alone, so drop me a line if you are in CT and interested in volunteering to help turtles.
