for something to be considered creative, it has to be semantically/pragmatically felicitous!!!
N-gram novelty is widely used as a measure of creativity and generalization. But if LLMs produce highly n-gram novel expressions that don’t make sense or sound awkward, should they still be called creative? In a new paper, we investigate how n-gram novelty relates to creativity.

AI medical scribes MUST include consent, extreme privacy guardrails, and realistic evaluations — none of which are really true for the systems currently (and extensively!) in use. Otherwise this is just another step in a long parade of clinicians, researchers, and medical systems abusing patients.

My favorite slide from @masonyoungblood.bsky.social ‘s talk that pretty much summarizes @asaakyan.bsky.social ‘s new paper on Novelty vs Creativity in LLM generated text :-)

🚨New paper on AI & copyright

Authors have sued LLM companies for using books w/o permission for model training.

Courts however need empirical evidence of market harm. Our preregistered study exactly addresses this gap.

"AI slop" seems to be everywhere, but what exactly makes text feel like "slop"?

In our new work (w/ @tuhinchakr.bsky.social, Diego Garcia-Olano, @byron.bsky.social ) we provide a systematic attempt at measuring AI "slop" in text!

@literaryhub.bsky.social Hey Lithub you don’t respond to emails and its a bit frustrating. Its been over 13 weeks and as a Bibliophile member I am yet to recover my Joan Didion tote bag

This is starting to feel a bit unprofessional. And you can do better for your patrons

In the light of bullshit about AI being creative I got 10/10 in the poetry turing test.

I am yet again telling you that please evaluate your AI outputs by human who have expertise.

Not to say the AI poetries were so bad I wanna smash my head on the wall

ICLR should not allow public discussion until after decisions. It allows Oscars-style award/accept campaigns by high-profile allies. Even for great papers, that can’t be part of the review process. The only reason it didn’t happen before is because it was against community norms, which are changing.

Reminder and hello to newcomers who did the right thing.

I guess I will be posting more about trust in our information ecosystem, or lack thereof.

And AI.
If you cancelled the Washington Post (I did) but are still logging into X (I am not), your priorities are way off.
