My town is proud to be home to the old Vickers Tavern, proud of the potter/abolitionist John Vickers’ role in the Underground Railroad.
Vickers hid fugitive slaves there.
He hid them from the people of our town. Because the people of our town couldn’t be trusted not to collaborate with enslavers.
