Vermont just shipped two more bus loads of incarcerated men to a for-profit prison in Mississippi. Governor Scott and his lead counsel are now calling prison a place for “healing”. This is a dangerous shift and it’s no accident. More detailed thoughts:

Grateful to CBC Radio for their continued commitment to discussion on the appropriation of Abenaki identity by Vermont groups. I'm still equally committed to convincing my legislative colleagues to spend time understanding the mistakes our predecessors made in granting state recognition.

We must stop excluding the undisputed descendants of the original keepers of this land when we make decisions that impact them. The United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples is crystal clear on this.

Plans to replace Burlington monument bring controversy over state-recognized tribes to Queen City leaders - VTDigger
The Abenaki Nation at Missisquoi commissioned a new sculpture to replace a monument to a historic Abenaki chief, but the plan has drawn opposition from a state legislator in Burlington.

Outstanding thread on the weaponization of collegiality that is being utilized within SCOTUS.
What's up with Justice Jackson? She started making her mark and speaking out early, and some of her dissents are so pointed Kagan and Sotomayor don’t even join them. The far right is out for her, and even Republican justices are getting snarky.

So what's up? Here’s my take 🧵

But I’m not done fighting. I know you aren’t either.

The vote on Vermont’s biggest education bill was called before anyone could speak. The speed by which a voice vote was called caught many legislators off guard. No debate. No roll call. Here is my open letter to leadership explaining why that moment demands accountability.

We scaled back the motel program.
We built a better structure with local nonprofits.
We handed the Governor the plan he asked for.
He vetoed it.
Again.
The only consistent thing about Scott’s housing strategy is the pivot. And the veto. He's just Lucy holding the football we’ll never get to kick.
