This is happening, right now.
The great "arribada" (arrival) of mother Olive Ridley sea turtles on the Odisha coast, where they dig sand-nests & lay their eggs, driven by ancient instinct.
Heart-lifting, magnificent, moving: part of a geography of hope.

Storm #Éowyn has set new wind speed records for Ireland as potential sting jet hits the west coast (mean wind 37.5 m/s & gust 50.8 m/s).

The location of the maximum winds and the satellite appearance of #Éowyn match with the conceptual model of a sting jet.

Oh just your average 140 mph wind gust (max over ocean) 938 mb storm, clocking Ireland Friday morning.
It may end up being an all-time min low pressure record for that area.

Storm #Eowyn is being forecast as one of the most intense wind storms to hit Ireland.
We will have to wait for attribution studies to assess what role #climate change did or didn’t play.
By coincidence I have been reading papers on current impacts of AMOC slowdown. 🧵

In 1582, a papal bull introduced the Gregorian calendar, still used today by most of the world. Because it’s 11 days ahead of the Julian calendar, countries introducing it simply skipped a third of October, and if you scroll back far enough in the iPhone calendar app you can see it change

OK, by popular demand... here's my rendition of what I call "The Offramp". It's the virtuous circle antidote to the vicious cycle of the Doom Loop. It *starts* with social movements for economic and political justice. So, grab a pitch fork, and let the billionaire class know we're coming!

There’s an American lady with the same name as me who keeps giving my email address out to her friends by mistake. I have for years tried to alert her to no avail. Today I am delighted to read that Aileen sent her Christmas newsletter and she will be holidaying in France for the season.

It is indeed a fascinating thread showing that action on climate change is not just the preoccupation of certain demographics.
Well, this is fascinating.

The good people at @cplusc.bsky.social have found that voters with incomes under 100K overwhelmingly support fossil-fuel phaseout!

So much for the myth that climate change is merely an "elite" preoccupation of the affluent, college-educated, dare I say "woke" voter.

Forget the numbers. The key things to understand about global temps are:
1. Homo sapiens (us) have never seen temps this high.
2. It's getting hotter, faster.
3. We're on track for collapse and mass extinction.
4. We could stop it, but Big Oil & govs are still making it hotter instead.
Climate crisis deepens with 2024 ‘certain’ to be hottest year on record
Average global temperature in November was 1.62C above preindustrial levels, bringing average for the year to 1.60C

Here is a somber truth of creative life. If it goes well, people will begin to ask you for things. Each of those things, no matter how kind or flattering or genuine or even beneficial to your own career and finances as well as someone else's, will pull you from your true purpose.

How many whiskers does a red squirrel have? Lots! They're also under its chin, on its belly, elbows, wrists, feet, & the base of its tail. Called vibrissae, they are highly touch sensitive, so for example, a squirrel can always feel where it's about to place its foot
