EXCLUSIVE: After Trump took over the Kennedy Center in Feb, he vowed to make it "hot" again. So, how's it doing? @jeremybmerrill.com and I used data from the center's ticketing website to find out. Ticket sales are lowest they've been since the pandemic.

Kennedy Center ticket sales have plummeted since Trump takeover
Nearly nine months into Trump’s oversight, sales for the three largest performance venues are the worst they’ve been since the pandemic, according to a Washington Post analysis.

The National Council for the NEH had 26 scholars and leaders serving humanities efforts across the U.S. After today’s White House firings, it’s down to just 4 Trump-appointed White men, one terminated member told me.

The White House appeared to fire all but four members of the National Council on the Humanities, an advisory board to the head of the government’s grantmaking agency.

I spent an evening with PUP the band, who described themselves as “like Weezer but worse." Which is not true, but as Stefan Babcock said, "It’s easier to be disliked than liked."

If you like rock music, check them out, and read about them here:

Rock is dead? No one told these self-deprecating Toronto punks.
The Toronto quartet PUP, who just released their fifth album, “Who Will Look After the Dogs?,” is living proof that pop hasn’t completely conquered the airwaves.

I should add, very little else about this is standard. The president hosting is not standard. The president joking (?) that he will give himself an honor is not standard. Most of what has happened at the center is not standard.
BREAKING: The first Kennedy Center Honors class under Trump. As I previously reported: Kiss, Michael Crawford and George Strait. Also Sylvester Stallone and Gloria Gaynor. My big takeaway: It's a fairly standard class. My latest w @janaykingsberry.bsky.social:

Some House Republicans want to rename the Kennedy Center's Opera House after the first lady. One wants to rename the entire center after Trump. So, can they? I looked into it:

Bill Camp is the ultimately That Guy. One of Hollywood’s — and Broadway’s — hardest working actors. Also one of the world’s best. I’ve been fascinated by him for years so I went to New York to find out what makes him tick. My latest:
