If anyone on here works at Politics & Prose or other bookstores that are scheduled to host Chuck Schumer, I have a proposal—if you cancel his event, I would pledge to buy a book of equal value or make a donation to make sure you didn’t lose revenue—and I bet a lot of others would too.

Cannot stress enough how important this relationship is going to be in the near future.

‘We Have No Coherent Message’: Democrats Struggle to Oppose Trump
More than 50 interviews with Democratic leaders revealed a party struggling to decide what it believes in, what issues to prioritize and how to confront an aggressive right-wing administration.

Yeah, for me it's been about 39 years. I don't think I would say they've *never* served my goals (using "me" to mean "their base"), but when they have it was by coincidence, not bc they valued my votes or other contributions (time, skills, policy insights). And no end to the insults.
I have been loyal to the Democratic Party for twenty five years and they have not been loyal to me, ever.

And they insult me, to add insult to injury

Many of us are familiar only with the very bottom rungs of the escalation ladder: "quietly acquiesce" and "complain", and the very top rung: "deadly force".

This is a recipe for freezing up in a dynamic situation.

The same could be said for how we think about activism and political resistance.

If your awareness of resistance tactics is limited only to the extremes of the spectrum: voting, petitions, and peaceful marching on one end; armed revolution on the other — you may be feeling frozen in this moment.

Take the time to learn about direct action tactics in the middle of the spectrum.

Thus, the leaders who we elected nominally to protect our democracy are not only FAILING to protect democracy, they're actively preventing communities from doing what is necessary to protect themselves.

It reminds me of the WTC facilities personnel who told 9/11 victims not to evacuate the towers.

As importantly, treat it as a Trump loss. Nothing he hates more than losing, nothing will force him to lose trust in people faster than those who make him lose. And the people behind this move are no less dangerous today than they were yesterday.

Trump announces an executive order authorizing a 30,000 capacity migrant detention center in Guantanamo.

"Some of them are so bad we don't even trust the countries to hold them because we don't want them coming back, so we're going to send them out to Guatanamo Bay."
