Great conversation I had yesterday with the cognitive scientist Tom Froese, about diagrammatic relationships between his "Irruption Theory", Darwin's thought, "difference-first" ontologies, and @drmichaellevin.bsky.social 's work on developmental plasticity: youtu.be/BqX4ycjv-KM?...

You think all the arbitrary specifications of the universe were introduced in one dose, in the beginning, if there was a beginning, and that the variety and complication of nature has always been just as much as it is now. But I, for my part, think that the diversification, the specification,

My article in @theconversation.com today w/ @tnwjackson.bsky.social discusses progress on a new antivenom for snakebite. A topic that needs ⬆️ resources, research, & gov’t commitments, esp in India, & sub-Saharan Africa where the burden of snakebite is severe.

‘Super antibodies’ for snake toxins: how a dangerous DIY experiment helped scientists make a new antivenom
A man spent 18 years injecting himself with venom, almost dying more than once – and now his blood is behind a new snakebite treatment.

@andrewmurphie.bsky.social - this is from Berressem's conclusion. Very nice. I call process-relational thought both "eco-evo" and "vitalist-animist". One thing I like about Guattari, and which I am attempting to mobilise in this Machinic Pharmkoecology project, is his use of animism to explicitly...

Ends are constituted from difference, and then feed back upon it, shaping the stabilisation/propagation/amplification of subsets of differential variation. There not only remain bases for speaking of finality, it remains necessary to do so. A difference-first ontology enables the explanation of....
There is no longer any basis for speaking of finality: when difference has become the thing itself, there is no longer any basis for saying that the thing receives its difference from an end.

Every time I take this three string twang box with me travelling, I come up with new music. I never really “finish” pieces, that’s not the point….neither is precision. Anyway, this a moment of musicking in Mauritius. #music #mauritius

Everytime I take this thing travelling with me I have to learn how to play it again, and come up with some new material. Some new strings might not be a band idea either…. This is what Mauritius elicited from me today. @helendecruz.net might enjoy

Looking forward to reading. As long as we remember that the cybernetic (Ashby 1956) definition of organisms as thermodynamically open but organisationally (or informationally, for Ashby) is an idealisation. Real organisms are not organisationally closed.
