Revolution was never promised. My latest for @thenation.com: hyper-individualism, elite-managed media, and advanced repressive tech are making our revolutionary aspirations increasingly elusive. If movements don’t adapt, windows for change will keep closing. www.thenation.com/article/poli...
Can Revolution Survive in the 21st Century?
Technology and the surveillance state have made it easier than ever to suppress popular uprisings. Will our movements adapt?

these are the material consequences of the adl and other major pro-israel institutions working to tie groups like sjp and jvp to terrorism: non-violent activists get treated by law enforcement as though they’re hiding bombs and AKs at home for doing basic misdemeanors
“The authorities told the family the raid was related to a spray-paint vandalism incident at George Mason’s campus in August — part of the widespread campus protests related to Israel’s war on Gaza.”

"It is astonishing how this normal human reaction - wishing for a war to end, instead of going on indefinitely - is completely inverted when it comes to the Israeli public."

We need to normalize asking why an entity born via ethnic cleansing and addicted to genocide has a singular right to exist.

Okay: did lying in an extremely obvious way to defend an administration committing a genocide work? Was that persuasive to the many, many young people horrified by the extermination of Palestinians in Gaza that had continued every single day for the past year+ of the Biden-Harris administration?
There have been a lot of times where I feel like we need to have honest discussions on the left about what has worked and what hasn’t, share observations without judgement, but it feels like there isn’t much space for it. I think it’s holding us back.

I wonder how and where we can accomplish that.

The US worked hard to remove Chapter VII language from the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza, that would have demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and the release of hostages, and then vetoed it anyway. 14 for, 1 against. Utterly depraved.

Palestinians will have to live w/ this type of brutal humiliation for generations.

Breaking the will of Palestinians across the social spectrum has been one of the most constant & ever-expanding methods of Israeli colonial project. It helps when ur biggest allies are also racist colonial projects

If you still work for the NYTimes, why?
this is an extremely strange and gross way of saying "Donald Trump is appointing tons of sexual predators to his cabinet" www.nytimes.com/2024/11/19/u...

What can I do for Gaza?
1) Identify your sphere of influence. Your school, your work place, organizations you're a part of.
2) Are they Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) compliant? Have they cut ties with Israel and Israeli institutions?
3) If no, get to work! Organize!

Reminder:

Despite being defeated last week, HR 9495 (the bill that would strip nonprofit status of ANY organization the Trump treasury declares a terrorist org) will return for another vote in the House this week, tomorrow or Wednesday.

Call/email your reps and tell them to vote NO on HR 9495.

“Combat tested” - is one of Israel’s main selling points of its genocidal weapons.

Some years down the road, your government will be using this tech to against you or in a war in the name of protecting you.
