Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous.

I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them.

🧵Broligarchs are distinct in 3 ways:
There’s a sort of Trump apologist, a relatively small but loud subset, who probably don’t realize or intend to be, but are so attached to a previous hyperbolic claim that they deny anything important changed.

-US was already an oligarchy
-US was already fascist
-Biden gave Israel a blank check
-Etc

After a month break, I describe U.S. march toward tyranny as a slow cooker, turned up by degrees from Salvadoran gulags to snatched students to detained tourists to big-ticket capitulations. Trump wants to boil the frog...

...But we are not yet cooked. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/comm...
The frog of democracy is nearly boiled. We can still jump out of the pot
The slow, seemingly piecemeal march of American dictatorship is trampling colleges and law firms and coming for the rest of us.

Just a friendly reminder that you’re not being “unreasonable” if you wish to pull a book from a bookshelf and find that it opens a secret door.

If anyone tells you otherwise, they were never your friend to begin with.

You were taught that educated, single, child-free women are unwanted and pathetic because a woman who is unmanageable through attachment and enraged at the exploitation all around her is a very dangerous thing to an institution that needs to manage and exploit her in order to survive.

The NYT asked me to write an op-ed on Musk and the Treasury and then took a pass. I hope it will still get read.
Personal Discretion Over the Treasury's Payments System Means the End of Democracy
If the Court and federal workers fail to stop Elon Musk, we are heading for authoritarianism.

Only saying once on bsky b/c I know it is not entirely useful, but it is totally exhausting that in 2016 some of us said “they’re Nazis,” some of us screamed “they’re segregationists,” and a whole lot of very serious people now posting about them being Nazis and segregationists gaslight us for years

I want you to hone your instincts, become suspicious, to think twice.

Fascism THRIVES when people give them the benefit of the doubt, default to politeness, or think nothing of what they see.

Become a suspicious, skeptical bastard.

I want you to give them no chance to do nefarious shit to you.

She would have made an amazing president.

I mourn for a nation that did not know what they had, before discarding it.

And I will never get over my anger at the MSM who unreasonably trashed her and the Democrats who turned their backs on her.

It's not just in regard to college enrollment that we don't talk about misogyny, it's pretty much everything.

Many of us bloggers talked about Dobbs and the fury of women during the runup to the election. There was much less in the news and practically no notice in the polls.
Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping?
We would rather talk about literally everything else.

In ancient Egypt, people drank low alcohol beer and wine to avoid the parasites in "raw water." The old graves, which I excavate, are full of children who died from diseases we now can vaccinate against. You are ghouls for promoting this garbage.
Untreated water enthusiasts swear by natural springs, or “raw water.” Many of them are part of the so-called health freedom movement, which opposes vaccine mandates, pasteurized milk and other government public health interventions.
‘Raw Water’ Devotees Swear by Natural Springs, Despite the Risks
Untreated water enthusiasts swear by natural springs. Their movement has parallels with raw milk drinkers and vaccine skeptics.
