Affable chap, novice perfumer, D&B, programmer, very left leaning but let’s face it, left or right, we’re invariably together at the bottom. Look up.
I don’t expect a follow back - I’m aware I’m fluent in waffle-tosh.
This week there were so many things I wanted to get done for myself, but work has consumed my time.

But now, It’s the weekend, and you know what that means!

That’s right!

Task paralysis!

Lord help me. I had an 8pm nap and have woken up feeling fresh and ready to face the day at 10:30pm.
This is only slightly less bio-rhythmically confusing than when the clocks go back.

Anyone else’s skin do bad things with labdanum/cistus? They get real funky on me, not in a disco way… like, down on the farm and the honk of the barn. #perfumeSky #scentSky

It was long overdue. The juice had thickened with age and didn't spray so much as seeped. 😬

Hello you beautiful humans! While researching amber, I stumbled across this excellent piece and thought I’d share it with you. It’s a two parter, kinda lengthy, and fascinating. Probably best read with glass of chilled Sancerre.

A Guide to Amber – Part I: Types, Definitions, Materials & Scent
“Amber” is a glorious genre of perfumery, a showcase for all that is decadent, inviting, resinous, and golden in scent, with facets that range across a broad spectrum from the musky, su…

So this guy is stepping out to celebrate a birthday of… indeterminate… years. Question is - Which scent (or scent genre) would you expect him to be wearing?

…pay writers (or me, come to that!) any more.

However, If, despite the lack of $, anyone would be willing to write an article (or several) for a small fragrance site, then I would be very much grateful. 💚

Will share more info if anyone is interested. DM me on here if you are

I wasn’t going to do this, but @perfumer-pia.bsky.social said I should!

If you've read Basenotes for a number of years, you may have noticed we don't run many big editorial features any more. It's not that I don't want to, it's just the site doesn't bring in enough income for me to [1/2]

How long should one wait for a customer service email response these days?
I feel that the online megastores have warped my expectations for smaller, niche stores with limited manpower.
However, am now at a point where I’m not sure if small store is trying their best or if I’m being fobbed off.

I’m kinda back! What did I miss? Who added rocket fuel to the dumpster fire? Isn’t my cat adorable, and how are you guys, really, how are you?

Work is being a needy little {insert choice expletive here}. Larking will recommence in due course.
(I’m wearing Cashmeran and Ambroxan to bed, it’s comforting.)

I mixed the usually fleeting Lime Peel EO with Fixateur 505 E and the lime stayed - all night. Less sharp, more “lime scented polish”, but still lime.
Repeated, and added some Floralozone.
Now it’s a big, everlasting lime that I can smell from a distance & I’m now sick of lime & thanks, I hate it.

Exciting plopping sounds from the postman today.
Not one, but two plops!
Fathom V AND Phoenix Flame samples on my doormat. I’m SO excited!

New stationary, because a bog-standard reporter’s spiral-bound notebook just doesn’t feel right for fragrance journaling.
I call it my Book of Potions & Magic Smells.

Floralozone - Quite how they managed to get the smell of “wet” into a bottle is beyond me.
This one could be fun.

Today I learned: To stop putting Ambroxan in everything that doesn’t work out how I expected it to. It just smells like an accident with added Ambroxan.

Now… where did I put my Labdanum?

From whose arse do they excavate this substance? #yeesh

I’ve found that one of the trickier things to master when learning perfumery is not wearing a scent on a dabble day. It's feels like being told to not wear trousers to go clothes shopping.

Fascinating stuff. Probably shouldn’t have read this while eating porridge, but it’s a great read nonetheless.
Three rooms away… I’ll say no more.
Today is the deathiversary of King Henry VIII. In honor of everyone's favorite tyrant, here is an article on both Henry's scents, but also the disgusting perfume Jude Law commissioned when he played the king in Firebrand. #perfumesky
