Rodrigo Mora. You have caught my eye tonight. First start for Porto and he performed magnificently, just 17 years old.

The psychological strength of United’s squad is an area which hasn’t been improved upon for some time.

I think you can clearly see a team that lacks psychological strength, some cues are:

- can the team protect leads?
- how does the team react to setbacks?
- how does the team react in chaos?

You need players on the pitch that can react to situations quicker than your opponents do.

This can be in the form of getting to the ball first, understanding where the space is first, or simply making that on ball decision before the opponent has time to react.

Whilst Amorim builds at United, I feel like Twitter is going to be a worse and worse place to be.

Already read today that he should give up the 3-4-3 and switch to a 4-2-3-1 on paper.

Don’t think a lot of Utd’s fanbase has the patience to wait for big changes that will take lots of time, tbh.

United’s temperament as a team has been poor.

Tempo setting isn’t there, players unable to receive on the turn in central areas and hold possession under pressure.

Forward players without the necessary duel power to give United an outlet (vs what Gyökeres usually does).

Ahhh, the left footed RWB.

How many times will we see this move tried today?

I believe the way I’m feeling right now ahead of Amorim’s first game is “hyped”.

The thread I’m posting tomorrow on Ruben Amorim is going to be a long, detailed one.

I’m hoping it will be engaging and informative for everyone. It’s not possible to include every single detail, but I’ve tried to find the best balance I can between the areas I’ve talked about.

Tomorrow night.

I’ve been in Edinburgh for the last couple of days, can safely say it’s one of the best places I’ve ever been to.

Possibly my 2nd favourite place in the UK (after Old Trafford of course).

YouTube video and X/BlueSky thread on Amorim’s Sporting team and adaptation at United coming later this week.

Stay tuned.

A Thread 🧵

United’s first training session under Amorim, player positions:

RCB- Yoro
RWB - Antony
CM- Casemiro (slightly staggered 6s)
CM - Mainoo
LWB - Malacia
RAM - Amad
LAM - Mount
CF - Rashford

Amorim looking at his watch, asking for the move to be sped up.

A facet of Amorim’s system that I do like is the flexibility that the wing-backs offer in build-up.

With Amorim generally using at least one winger at wing-back, he can push that wing-back higher to the front line and have the other wing-back used as a situational full-back.

Having knowledge is power.

Being able to communicate knowledge, is mastery.

A coach can have the best ideas in the world, but how do they break these ideas down in a more simple format so that players can enact upon them.

“You cannot go 100% on every detail, because it will be confusing.”

Now and again I come across a camera angle like this when I’m rewatching a game and think:

This is cool! Why can’t we see it more often?

Thank you to everyone who has followed me on here so far.

Looking to grow my knowledge of the beautiful game every day, and I’ve connected with some new people on BlueSky already, can’t wait to get even more insight from them.

Improve every day. Even if it’s 0.01%. It will add up on the long-run.

It’s amazing how much the use of a pronoun can alter the feeling of a video.

I particularly noticed Amorim using “we” a lot in his first interview.

“We will start”, “we will try”, “we know”, “we have”.

It makes it feel like “we” as fans, plus all the club’s staff, are on the journey with him.

Something that we’ve missed for a while at United is a reliable set piece taker that can master dead ball situations.

I wonder whether United’s academy player Jim Thwaites will have the opportunity to leverage this quality within the first-team under Ruben Amorim.

Reference to game model, but cautious about info overload and how this could be damaging.

I think we’ll see some in and out of poss patterns against Ipswich, but we can’t expect consistent execution from the players this early on.

The hard balance to strike, how much info do you give to players…

Amorim talks so well.

“Wrong footed” wing-back allows for first/second time inside pass in behind opponent back line.

Overload last line with forward runs -> Højlund/Rashford, Bruno in these situations 🤝
November 15, 2024 at 2:11 PM
What’s most interesting about Amorim ball is that you see so many different shapes in and out of possession throughout a game.

Just because it’s a 3-4-2-1 formation on paper doesn’t reflect what we’ll see during games.
November 15, 2024 at 1:12 PM
Watching a lot of Ruben Amorim’s Sporting and it’s nice to notice some regular build-up and middle third/final third patterns in their play.

The key to being a good scout or analyst is to try to recognise these patterns and understand why/how they’re formed.

Trying to improve this myself.

Think this man will take press conferences by storm.

Has the necessary character and personality to deal with the media, especially United scrutiny.
