Mayapples on their spring journey

I've bought geraniums every spring for years because I love the cheery colors and the way they dress up my porch planters. A couple of years ago, I learned that you can overwinter geraniums inside. I'll never buy new ones again when they come through winter looking like this! Joy on my windowsill!

Just planted my 12 Kentucky coffeetree seedlings into tree pots. I'll give them their first sun for a couple of hours, then move to shade. They'll come inside nightly for a week or so to ease the transition to outdoors. 😁
Plastic snakes to keep the killer squirrels at bay. It works for a while.

I do wish winter would end. Really, really need to be out in the garden with sun on my skin.

Made pine cone seed ball treats for the birds. Collected pine cones, rolled in unsalted peanut butter, then rolled them in a seed mix with peanuts and saw fly larvae. Hung out in trees with cotton twine. The birds love these protein rich treats.

Possums have always been one of my spirit animals, but now I feel even closer to this one. It's like we share the same trauma!

Patterns of light and dark. These always seem to me a beautiful consolation prize for having to live through the cold of winter.

My Kentucky coffeetree seed test is a success. Every seed I planted sprouted on Day 10. I'll wait until spring to plant the rest outside, but these little fellers will need to be pricked out and potted on soon. Aren't those tiny leaves just the cutest???

Home after work, a tiny sliver of sunshine is left, maybe 20 minutes or so. Sitting on the patio, loving my shells and pretty rocks. They remind me of travels, hikes, swims, and they keep me grounded in nature while I sojourn in the city.
Also, spring is coming! ☺️☺️☺️

Germination test of Kentucky coffeetree seeds. These sprout quickly if you breach the hard shell and soak them for an hour or so. I get way too excited when they sprout because they grow so fast, and they are gorgeous tropical looking seedlings. More pics to come if the test is successful.

Sometimes, you get home from work, and the only logical next step is a wee sip of something lovely and warm.

Today was Plant Tree Seeds Day at my house. Each milk crate holds nine tree pots. Our squirrels-from-hell dig up everything, hence the wire covers.
Planted: 36 white oak, 27 burr oak, 45 pawapw, 45 persimmon, 15 Osage orange, 18 butternut, 45 tulip poplar.
Tomorrow, pecans and more burr oaks.

My pipevine (Dutchman's pipe, also Aristolochia tomentosa) had a seed pod this year. I've been watching it all summer and fall, and it finally popped off the vine today. Now to plant these little seeds out and see what happens in the spring!

20 years ago, this would be a 1/2 day job. Now, replacing my porch roof:
Day 1 to set up equipment & materials
Day 2 to tear off 3 layers (including the original slate), deck it and re-roof it
Day 3 to haul off debris
Day 4 to demobalize and store my equipment.
New roof looks good!
Still got it!

Bringing houseplants inside for winter and noticed the snakeplant is blooming again. Love winter flowers! Tonight I'll transplant the pelargoniums to inside pots, and they will bloom right through to spring in a sunny window. The lemon is almost bloomed out, but we may see another flush in January.

Spent an hour blocking every influencer, news anchor, shitposter on my feed with more than five thousand followers. I want more quilts, trees, birds, etc. I want less shit. In fact, I want zero shit. I sure hope this place doesn't turn into a new Xitter.
