Saturday marked the formal debut of an imperial America, led by a president who recognizes no law, save that of the jungle…Every country in the Western Hemisphere should be worried, particularly this country, which Trump so obviously covets as a 51st state.”

We must also marvel at the titanic idiocy of our new "Donroe Doctrine" for it turns America from a global power into a regional one by choice.

I still can't really believe they are going through with this for it is so batshit f-ing crazy, and does so much lasting harm to our interests.
So is it really possible the Trump regime had no real plan for Venezuela beyond snatching Maduro? That like Putin in Ukraine they thought Caracas would fall in three days? That Trump just imagined himself in charge? That its already FUBARed?

Trump has completely lost it.
“We do need Greenland, absolutely,” he said, describing the island—a part of Denmark, a NATO ally—as “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”
EXCLUSIVE: In an interview with Michael Scherer, Donald Trump threatened Venezuela’s interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez, with a fate worse than Maduro’s; defended regime change in the country; and expressed renewed interest in the U.S. seizing Greenland.
Trump: Delcy Rodríguez Might Be Next
The president told The Atlantic that the interim Venezuelan president will meet a fate worse than Maduro’s unless she complies with U.S. wishes.

So hoping Girkin is going to nail his predictions.
1/ It wouldn't be a real Christmas without a gloomy forecast from Igor 'Strelkov' Girkin, Russia's answer to the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. He sees Trump turning against Russia in 2026, anticipates the loss of Transnistria, and predicts a naval blockade by the EU. ⬇️

This is funny, and possibly important. But if Putin can’t even take half of Ukraine, how is he going to get through Poland and the Baltics? Let alone Germany, France and UK. Some crayon filled naïveté at play

When you invade a country because you have a concept and not an idea.
From a long fermenting blog post draft. Venezuelan oil is not that interesting since it is tricky to process & thus very expensive, while oil demand is declining:

Some people were angry I was preaching caution in #Venezuela instead of celebrating. Yes, Maduro out is a relief; but Delcy & Gang with wartime powers to suspend rights is a terrifying perspective. I wasn't doing cartwheels because I fear we Venezuelans will be off worse.

Trump is trying to force US oil companies to rebuild Venezuelan oil fields that are too expensive to invest in at current crude prices while a full blown energy revolution is happening with cheap solar and electrification growing exponentially.

This is a dying empire shit.

US chicken is chlorinated because America has no animal welfare laws where poultry is concerned. It has to be chlorinated because Salmonella and e. coli run rife

The EU banned that practice in 1997 and as such the UK has among the highest welfare and standards in the world. 1/2

Three things:

1. They are not fully European when owned by US companies - see how Microsoft attacked an EU judge.

2. We do not know the current energy use, because these companies don’t report and EU Commission doesn’t enforce the reporting.

3. They still impose an energy tax on us

I think what China understood and the rest of the world has been slow to do is that Trump is running a protection racket more than a trade or foreign policy.

He wants the payoffs more than the invasion or regime change.

US regime change in Venezuela is not about the liberation of the Venezuelan people but the liberation of Venezuelan capital and resources for US industry. Venezuela’s decades-long struggle with authoritarianism is far from over, it’s rather entering its transitional stage
