Yeah, I feel like us white immigrants need to be making a shit tonne of noise on exactly this point. I don't care if you mean "Them". Human beings don't stop being human bc you've decided their race makes them an acceptable Other.
I, too, am an immigrant. I, too, am told “they don’t mean you.” And when they say that, I’m like, “So you admit it’s just racism then.”
As someone who came here as an immigrant, I can’t tell you how jarring it is to see this anti immigration narrative flooding our politics every single day, people will say they don’t mean you, it doesn’t matter, it’s disgusting

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Part of why I love working with Alasdair's texts is the trust he has in me as a performer. Being given something truly beautiful AND the license to play and explore within it is a fantastic gift.
And you want to know the magic part? There are elements in that story that @thesarahgriffin.bsky.social brings out that I never could. It’s my text but it’s not just my story and it changes, like me, all the time.
