Style in the end is about conscious creative choices, personal tastes and expression. You have to see and experience reality - observational drawings, drills, studies - before you can interpret anything in your lens

And that last part requires going out into the world and living and experiencing
Random art opinion incoming: Forcing yourself to develop a "style" is pointless. Just draw. The style comes as you work. No one makes lines like you because they're your lines. That's your style.

To so effectively conceptualize and bring to life a world like Half-Life 2's, not just on his own but in such successful coordination with the other artists around him, is a legacy that will far outlive Viktor Antonov and genuinely may never be touched by anyone again, at least in the same way. 4/6

Rest in peace, Viktor Antonov. Your work defined and continues to define not only the narrative and aesthetic heights achievable by video games as an artform, but touched and inspired the lives of millions.

We have suffered an immeasurable loss. 6/6

Our thoughts with the family & friends of Viktor Antonov. He was a visionary who added a unique and powerful voice to our medium.

Moreover, we interviewed several of his colleagues over the years and were always confronted with broad smiles when his name came up.

Thank you Viktor. Rest in peace.

RIP Viktor Antonov.
I wish I told you how much admiration I had for you but we get caught in our lives until a surprise like this hits us.
You were instrumental to the success of Arkane Studios and an inspiration to many of us, also a friend with whom I have many fond memories

Word on the street is that Viktor Antonov, the artist behind Half-Life 2’s City 17 and Dishonored’s Dunwall, has passed away. Two of the greatest environments in gaming, all laid out with absolute precision.

There’s a great Vice article from 2017 on his work: www.vice.com/en/article/h...

Mr. Antonov was and still is my greatest inspiration as an artist. His work on the Half-Life 2 Beta has inspired my art for years.

It's sad to see such a titan of the industry pass so soon. And that he won't be able to see the successor to his most famous work, HL3.

Rest in Peace Viktor.

met him in 2016 at a class he taught at MIGS. he was patient, took extra time and interest in everyone there, their projects, offered critique, etc.

masterful; on another level in terms of how he thought of art, process, world building, etc.

One of the greatest visual designers of our age has passed. I still pore over his concepts and compositions and feel an awe before a timeless brilliance — progressive and speculative and yet inhering total physical credibility.

There's been too much saddening news of late.

Rest well Viktor Antonov. What a legend he was - his work was always incredible no matter what he made, and it’s a tragedy he was taken from us at the age of 53.
