Just watched House of dynamite last night. I’m late on the discourse, but I can’t help but post about it.

I was fully on board, and then it just doesn’t resolve when the answer is obvious to anyone who’s thought about nuclear deterrence.

Cater to locals who's concerns amount to fear of homeless people and loss of property value, or give 60 vulnerable people the help they need. If you can live with yourself after choosing option 1, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

Anyone else tempted to throw their coffee cream like it’s a grenade after they pull the seal ring off it?

Hmm, probably just me.

Weird that Scheer’s line on the CPC resignation and defection is that their MPs are being harassed and cajoled into joining the liberal party. That really doesn’t portray his party members as having very much agency. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
In damage control after 2 departures, Conservatives accuse Liberals of 'undemocratic' distractions | CBC News
Conservative House leader Andrew Scheer held a brief media availability Friday morning in an attempt to redirect attention from the Official Opposition's internal crisis to the Liberal Party.

I've flown direct from Vancouver to London UK a couple times, and one of the perks is that that you fly over Hudson's Bay, Baffin Island, and Greenland; over a part of a world that's very hard to access. I looked it up, and there's two that get you even further north:

Visited Quebec last week for the Mont Sainte Anne downhill mountain bike World Cup, and I have three takeaways:
1. the speed these riders go boggles the mind. I knew they were fast, but it’s different to see it in person.
2. The damage that 5 days of poutine for dinner can do to the body is immense

Dipping back into Arduino programming as part of an effort to make the spectroscopy instrument I’ve been building more reliable, and I’m definitely realizing I didn’t really understand C pointers when I first learned them in undergrad.

If you’re ever tempted to write MATLAB code that uses asynchronous objects like serialport or timers for communication, ask yourself if you want to invite that evil into your life.

I’m very good at startling my flatmates by simply existing. One minute I’m in the kitchen checking my phone, the next someone is so shocked by my presence that they literally gasp and stumble. 🤷‍♂️

Pulling out my Google pixel pro and pointing it at a dog.

The AI voice pipes up enthusiastically: “What you’re looking at is a dog. Dogs are a widely used pet that many people own.”

I nod sagely and put my phone back into my pocket.

Semi-joking: Watching people absentmindedly stow their carry-on bags in the most space inefficient way possible is something to keep in your mind whenever you’re trying to make sense of public opinion. People just aren’t very considerate in aggregate

If I ever get a Borzoi, I feel like I’d also need to pair him with an English Bulldog or something. Every tall lanky guy needs a short stubby buddy.

Picking up some IAMS Black Edition™️ for my dog. It’s endorsed by Lewis Hamilton and includes the creatine and caffeine my dog needs to achieve maximum performance. Also grabbed him a Kong Pro™️, it’s made of medical-grade high-performance thermoplastic and is the official dog toy of the Americas Cup.

Israel’s killing of 31 Yemeni journalists marks deadliest global attack in 16 years - Committee to Protect Journalists
Washington, D.C., September 19, 2025—Israel’s targeted strikes on two newspaper offices in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which killed 31 journalists and media support workers on September 10, signal that its deadly pattern of attacking reporters and newsrooms on the grounds that they publish “terrorist” propaganda has spread firmly across the Middle East.  Yemen’s September 26 newspaper...

We’ve gone too far with calling the high end version of a product the ‘pro’ version. It’s got to at least have a plausible business purpose. AirPod pro? Swiffer Pro? Nah. Where does this stop? Cadbury pro? Milk-Bone pro? Kleenex Pro? Words mean something.

I just learned that there is one type of vertebrate that does not have hemoglobin in its blood: the crocodile icefish, which lives in coastal waters off Antarctica. Their blood is clear, and oxygen is circulated by being dissolved in plasma.

I’m thinking about Paul Verhoeven’s starship troopers, which inspired Helldivers 2. When that movie was released, the critical reaction was “I dunno, this seems a little fascist. 🤔”. With today’s eyes it’s so obviously a satire that those critics look like idiots for not picking up on it

There’s no feeling like discovering an album from a new band that really grabs you, then realizing that they’ve got 11 albums. Like striking a rich vein of gold

This album is excellent: Pile - Sunshine and Balance Beams
