Sainsbos. The pastry has a nice crumble and crunch but is a bit bland and dry. The filling is fruity and juicy, but there's nothing else going on, no hints of booze or spice. Decent pies, but there's nothing festive about them. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil) #MincePieFest2025 #MincePieADay #mincetagram

Every human being everywhere on earth should have all the tasty food, and good and safe housing, and a fantastic education through graduate school, and all the healthcare they need or want, all for free.

There is more than enough wealth on this planet to do that. We just need to divide it fairly.

A lovely proper pie crust, thick and with a pleasant bite. The filling is spicy, has a HUGE glog of brandy and port, and a little citrus kick at the end. Very tasty indeed. These would probably get a top score, except they are half air. 🥧🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (No Palm Oil) #MincePieFest2025 #MincePieADay

Firm pastry, just the right side of "crispy", with a pleasant bite. It looks a bit dry, but appearances are deceiving. The filling is fruity and tasty, but lacks any sort of kick. No spice, no citrusy zing, and no booze. Decent but generic. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil)

OMV! Merrily Vegan (Asda)
The pastry is so soft as to be almost non-existent, like biting into a sugary cloud. The filling is tasty, although it's all fruit and no interesting booze or spices, and it's a bit stingy. Vegans deserve better. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil)

Aldi Perfect*Christmas. The pastry is far too soft, has no bite to it, and is dry and chalky. The filling is bland and with a slightly unpleasant crunchy texture. Chewy, I like, crunchy, not so much. Not actively bad, but not much good either. 🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil) #MincePieFest2025 #MincePieADay

M&S Collection. These have a big initial juicy, orangey hit, that does overpower the other flavours a bit. The pastry is too soft and sweet and gets a bit claggy, which muddies the lovely taste of the filling. A bit on the small side too. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (No Palm Oil) #MincePieFest2025 #MincePieADay

Asda Exceptional. These have a lovely firm and sweet pastry, and a mild but tasty filling. There are lots of varied fruity, spicy, and boozy flavours in here, but never overwhelming. A bit tight on the filling maybe, but very good indeed. 🥧🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil) #MincePieFest2025 #MincePieADay

Aldi Specially Selected. The pastry has a nice firm texture, but the flavour is a tiny bit sickly. The filling has a full, fruity, tangy taste, and there is plenty of it, but the texture is a bit... gritty? Nice, but also disappointing. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil)

SO IT BEGINS.
Asda "Joyous"
A firm pastry with a pleasant crumble gives way to a tasty filling full of lovely spices. There's a hint of saltiness in the pastry that I don't enjoy, but I am fussy about salt. Pretty good for a cheap(ish) pie. 🥧🥧🥧 out of 5. (Palm Oil)

I ran some Cthulhu Hack last night! It was fun! Here's what the players did, mainly as a reminder for them when the next session rolls around on Sunday and they've forgotten everything:

I think Masque... suffers from poor execution, but the *idea* is compelling and it's a bold attempt from TSR to do something different with AD&D. It's good to see it getting more exposure.
TSR once made a D&D setting with no elves, no dungeons… only madness and corruption.

It's largely been forgotten... until now.
