JCPA is the national convener of Jewish coalitions working to build a just and inclusive American democracy.
President Trump’s dehumanization and targeting of our Somali neighbors is racist and it is dangerous. When any community is singled out, none of us is safe. Labeling a community “garbage” gives license to further bigotry and violence — threatening all of us, the rule of law, and our democracy.
Most Somali immigrants in Minnesota are U.S. citizens, yet residents have been pulled over, asked for their passports and detained by ICE this week after President Trump called them “garbage.”
In Minneapolis, Somalis say they’ve been targeted since Trump called them ‘garbage’
Minnesota has been a magnet for Somali immigrants for decades and now has America’s largest population of people of Somali descent.

Tomorrow we remember Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., who was assassinated for fighting for equality. His legacy reminds us that LGBTQ+ safety, dignity, and full participation in democracy are essential. May his memory be a blessing.

Protecting the rights and safety of all communities and advancing inclusive democracy isn’t just important because of our values. It's also crucial for our own safety as Jews.

In her Thanksgiving message, JCPA’s Sr VP and Rabbi in Residence Rabba Rori Picker Neiss reflects on how this holiday comes amid deep division in the Jewish community — and reminds us that even when conversations feel hard, we lean in, listen, and stay connected.

AAJC’s new Anti-Asian Hate in 2024 report makes clear: anti-Asian violence is rising — and it’s part of the same ecosystem of hate threatening Jews, immigrants, and other communities. We stand with our AAPI partners in confronting hate in all its forms. www.advancingjustice-aajc.org/publication/...

Chanting things like “globalize the intifada” and “death to the IDF” outside a synagogue isn’t protesting Israeli policy. It’s antisemitism, and there’s no excuse. www.timesofisrael.com/we-need-to-m...

Political violence is never acceptable and should not be encouraged by our leaders. This year, we've seen public officials targeted with assassinations, arson, and other attacks. Amid rising extremism all leaders must condemn this rhetoric as dangerous and irresponsible.

Swastikas and nooses aren’t “potentially divisive” - they are symbols of racist and antisemitic hate, violence, and genocide. By no longer classifying them as hate symbols, the Coast Guard is doing nothing less than normalizing violent extremism.

On Trans Day of Remembrance, we honor the trans and nonbinary people whose lives were taken by violence. As anti-LGBTQ+ attacks escalate, we reaffirm: Jewish values demand inclusion. Everyone deserves to live openly, safely, and without fear. May their memories be a blessing.

On the anniversary of the Club Q shooting, we remember the five lives stolen and we recommit to action. LGBTQ+ communities — especially trans youth — are facing renewed attacks through hateful laws and rhetoric. Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and the freedom to be themselves.

This dismantling of the DOE is part of a broader effort to undermine our democracy, civil service, and academic institutions. Much like the attacks on universities and academic freedom and research, this will not make Jews or any students safer. jewishpublicaffairs.org/press-releas...

Sixty-five years ago, six-year-old Ruby Bridges bravely integrated her New Orleans school, facing hate with extraordinary courage. Her story reminds us that democracy and justice depend on protecting every child’s right to learn, live, and thrive in safety and equality.

"The Trump administration can’t seem to quit extremist appointees like Paul Ingrassia because this increasingly-normalized antisemitism and hate are sadly a feature, not a bug, in their politics and governance." -JCPA CEO Amy Spitalnick

At a moment of rising antisemitism and broader hate and extremism, the loudest voices are offering a false choice between Jewish safety and democracy. But there is no Jewish safety without inclusive democracy - and no inclusive democracy without Jewish safety.

Today we honor all who have served — including the many Jewish Americans and members of diverse communities who have worn the uniform in defense of freedom and democracy. Their service reminds us that protecting democracy is a shared responsibility. Thank you to all veterans.

We need a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach to counter antisemitism, hate, and extremism — one that strengthens democracy, restores hate-crime prevention funding, protects civil rights, and builds cross-community trust.

True safety comes from prevention. 🧵 (1/5)

JCPA CEO Amy Spitalnick draws connections between the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin 30 years ago and today’s rise in political violence in the U.S. Like Rabin, we must reject the false choice between Jewish safety and democracy.
