“It’s the cost-of-living, dummy!”

“We have tried the “centrist, unity, maybe-the-Republicans-will-like-me” candidates for years. They do not convert Republican voters. They just depress Democratic ones.”
“If you don’t know what the Texas Democratic base wants, read the Texas Democratic Party Platform. It didn’t fall out of the sky.”

This is great news for TX-26, which was even less Republican leaning in the last cycle than this district, and is projected to be even less-so at midterms. Good thing we have @ernestforcongress.bsky.social fighting for us!
Brad Johnson at The Texan did the cost-per-vote math on this:

Rehmet: $1.16
Wambsganns: $43.39
Huffman: $167.61
Wow. Democrat Taylor Rehmet heading to a runoff with Wambsganss after getting 47.5% of the vote in a +18 Trump district. More than $4 million was spent by/in support of her two GOP opponents, with big checks from Miriam Adelson and billionaire Tim Dunn.

Rehmet spent $68,000.

Hell yeah
If we have a night like this next November, Texas will be blue.
November 5, 2025 at 5:22 AM
That’s alright. Brandon Gill will have his day next November when TX-26 landslides him out of office.

Also, I’m pretty sure he meant to say “mass illegal immigration,” not “mass legal immigration.”

Also, the mayor is a democratic socialist, not a communist. There’s a big difference.

Do better BG

Let’s talk about Rep. Brandon Gill’s most recent claims:

“Democrats shut down our government to demand free healthcare for illegal aliens.”

False. Undocumented immigrants are barred from federal Medicaid and ACA subsidies by law.

Negotiations focused on funding levels and legal immigrant coverage

They penalized “. . . Republicans who voted in favor of the electric assistance bill. This is the modern Texas GOP in a nutshell, so allergic to helping poor and working people that they’ll punish their own members for supporting relief on a basic necessity. Keeping the lights on isn’t ‘woke.’”

This is an opinion piece, that’s fine. The writer wants to see less political violence, agreed. But the irony here is just so incredible. “Many conservatives are frightened” - of what? Aren’t conservatives the ones with all the guns and all three branches of the state and federal government? What -
