For folks interested in DH and #CriticalAI, I'd recommend a new independent film from India called "Humans in the Loop."

It's the story of an indigenous (Adivasi) woman who gets hired to do data annotation. Raises questions of embodied labor, gender, and cultural bias in AI. Available on Netflix.

Here's how it works:
→ Submit your research idea or upvote existing ones (tag: "Weekly Competition")
→ Each Monday we select top 3 from previous week
→ We run experiments using research agents
→ Share repos + findings back on IdeaHub

We're launching a weekly competition where the community decides which research ideas get implemented. Every week, we'll take the top 3 ideas from IdeaHub, run experiments with AI agents, and share everything: code, successes, and failures.

It's completely free and we'll try out ideas for you!
The systems are just language pattern models programmed to tell you what you want to hear, the sycophantic approach apparently tests best and increases engagement. 😑

We're working on reproducibility rn, I like my language systems to act more like calculators than omens.

The silence of congressional Republicans to all the Trump corruption - from his disgusting pardons, to the UAE crypto money, to the Qatari jet, and the ballroom, should be used against all of them in midterms along with their silence on tariffs which has made things unaffordable.

It’s very much a prototype but I have to share a preview of the interface @djevans.bsky.social is working on for our Viral Texts data—it maps reprinting data back onto the newspaper page, allowing users to browse what reprints appeared together on each page—with links back to full reprint clusters

Once upon a time, American soldiers handed out food to Germans because *they* had followed a fascist madman into national ruin.

How times change.
NEW: The US Army website for its bases in Bavaria, Germany told its soldiers and employees that it might need to obtain free food from the German government during the US government shutdown.

The Army later altered publication to remove a list of food banks, but we have the original text here:
US Army Tells Soldiers to Go to German Food Bank, Then Deletes It
The initial 'Shutdown Guidance' for the US Army Garrison Bavaria included instructions to go to German food banks.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,

WOW. A federal judge says he's going to issue a Temporary Restraining Order requiring ICE to make changes at the Broadview facility in Chicago, a facility that until January was only for stays under 12 hours "absent exceptional circumstances," but has become, in Judge Gettleman's words, "a prison."
U.S. Robert Gettleman is now giving his thoughts. He says, "I think the evidence has been pretty strong that this facility is no longer just a temporary holding facility. …

"It has really become a prison."
DOJ's Jana Brady steps up next but says she'll largely "rest on our brief that we filed."

She wants any TRO to not "interfere with the executive branch."

Wrote a short piece arguing that higher ed must help steer AI. TLDR: If we outsource this to tech, we outsource our whole business. But rejectionism is basically stalling. If we want to survive, schools themselves must proactively shape AI for education & research. [1/6, unpaywalled at 5/6] +

I think a thing we'll learn tonight is that people fucking hate what is going on and they will straight ticket vote against anyone involved in starving people while pillaging the country and kidnapping their neighbors. I don't think it matters at all who that person is.
