“I thought several times this year while reading a particularly good book about what amazing bargains books still are
— for $20 or $30 bucks, and often even just $5 or $10 used - you can dive into an entire world created by someone else over years of work, research, and creativity.”

There was an article in The Guardian a few weeks back about how Gen Z find bookshops preferable to online shopping, and a key factor was that an algorithm will offer you 6000 books identical to the one you just finished whereas a bookseller will offer you three that are different but meet the vibe.

As a young baritone, both Crosby and Bowie were massively important singers to me. I stole phrasing and style from both with abandon.

And, yes, Crosby was not a great person. It’s much easier to separate the art from the artist when they’re not around any longer.

It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I’m a lifelong Mets fan and the same is true for Steve Cohen
this is the optimal explanation, because anyone losing money on THE NEW YORK YANKEES shouldn’t be allowed to run a paper route, let alone a Major League Baseball franchise
Hearing Hal Steinbrenner on a Zoom that the Yankees didn't make a profit this year. He's hard to hear, because he's conducting the Zoom on a 200-foot megayacht in the Seychelles smoking what appears to be a new Trump $200 bill.

If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

My prediction is we will see many of those same “AI search case studies” crashing and burning with future algorithms updates on Google in 2026 (you know, that boring old channel that probably still drives 40%+ of the site’s traffic compared to 1-2% for AI search)

For brands sharing AI search case studies, def. go check out their organic visibility trend in a tool like @sistrix, @ahrefs, @Similarweb or @semrush.

And check it again over time.

Many tactics ppl are recommending for AI search are straight up detrimental for SEO.

OpenAI's Sora video generator places 3 watermarks on its AI generated videos: the top-left or top-right corner, the center-right, and the bottom-left corner.

Each of these Facebook videos has 3 caption overlays which just happen to be placed in these 3 locations.
