Tazama attended a Gates Foundation and UNODC roundtable discussion in Manila, Philippines, in April 2025. The event focused on modern financial fraud detection using open-source software, bringing together key stakeholders.

New Zealand banks to step up customer scam protection and compensation.

Some of the key changes include :
1. Reimbursement
2. Consumer education and warnings for high-risk transactions and unusual activity
3. Focus on fraud prevention

The General Assembly on 24th December 2024 adopted the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, a landmark global treaty aimed at strengthening international cooperation to combat cybercrime and protecting societies from digital threats.

The Australian Securities and Investments Control (ASIC, asic.gov.au) sues HSBC Australia, alleging failures to adequately protect customers from scams. This is a big development - will Financial Institutions now do more to protect their customers from scams?

The 2024 edition of the Basel AML index includes Fraud indicators, which points to the magnitude of the fraud problem globally.  May be time to review your internal Country Risk Assessment!
