Hør her.

Får du kids skal du ut i ytre by.

REF NRK OG EUROVISJONEN

Som uavhengig nyhetsinstitusjon burde NRK nettopp gå inn for at Israel ikke får delta. Fordi Israel hindrer uavhengige nyhetsinstitusjoner å dekke krigen på Gaza.

“The computer acts like a computer” is such a profound and such a mundane result, all at once. It’s far more shocking that reasonable-sounding people have argued that massive datasets contain within them a secret truth that only will be revealed by… multinomial logits

While I 100% agree with this - the issue we need to figure out is how to ensure slow learning, secure the process, at the same time as acknowledging that students will use AI. And maybe - for certain tasks - should use AI.
Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

#dax18

This is very true - and also one of the reasons I am worried about AI-driven learning. To become smarter we need to try and fail. The slow process is the good process.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 96: Nothing you write is ever wasted. It’s all part of your training. That’s why you should never feel bad about the work you cut, or the hours you spend on work that stays unpublished. Every part of the process makes you a stronger writer.

Buy a book.

Any book, it doesn't matter which. The one you've been looking forward to, the one with the title that made you laugh, the weighty award-winner you've been meaning to get to. Whatever.

Treat yourself. Step away from it all. In this time of gross ignorance & madness, read something.

Same with writing. It’s during the drafting of the shitty first (and second etc.) versions that you start to figure out what it is you’re trying to say.
There’s a great interview with Nick Park about Wallace And Gromit in last month’s Empire, and this bit in particular stood out. It sums up what artists have been trying to say about AI. The mistakes and the learning aren’t things to be bypassed, but a vital part of the process 🤟
