Sometimes my neighbors worry me. Far too dry to just burn leaves on the side of the road.

Every time I see a headline or question like this I hear: Have you seen your kids using calculators? Do they even know how to do the math?
Are you a parent of a K-12 student? Have you noticed them using AI for schoolwork?

We want to hear from you for an upcoming story: https://bit.ly/45UXG4g

I'm so excited! Our organization is getting an intern from the #sociology department, which means we can finally tackle the important work of quantitative and qualitative analysis of our records.

Missed work yesterday bc of health issues. Dr wanted me to increase my medication, but it makes me sleep. He prescribed a secondary that won't make me sleepy. Of course it knocks me out, too. Meanwhile work gets more stressful because I'm not there and stress is a trigger. 🤷‍♀️

I used to say I couldn't understand the way medical providers treat patients (or more accurately, don't), but then someone started explaining the sin of #empathy to me and it was like a light turning on in the dark. #chronicillness #healthcare

Happy #flowersonfriday - here's a butterfly on my wildflowers. I'm starting my day listening to the birds grey the sun and sipping coffee on the porch. There's a rather vociferous Scarlet tanager competing with the local titmouse population for loudest call and honestly I think it's winning.

Think sociology is useless? You’re living in a world built by it. Labor laws, mental health care, even how we define poverty—all shaped by sociologists. Let’s talk history. 🧵

I worked on Fisher Island many years ago. Most island travel is by golf cart. I was driving my own one day and had a near miss with Oprah and her best friend at a blind corner.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

“One of the most important signs of democratic erosion is not when elections are lost, but when citizens and institutions lose the freedom to express themselves, when independent journalism is threatened or suppressed, and when protest is criminalized or violently repressed.”

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee:

“Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”
