“Devonshire Road, Toxteth”
Pastel and acrylic on canvas mounted on board
61cm x 46cm

The terraced houses of Devonshire Road were built alongside Princes Park from the 1840’s. My picture highlights an elegant ironwork veranda on one of the houses.

Porter Street
Chalk, graphite and acrylic on paper
2025
55cm x 39cm

Porter St is in the Ten Streets area to the south of Liverpool’s Stanley Dock. Each street is named after a separate commodity. The other end of the street can be seen in last week’s Waterloo Rd painting.

“Waterloo Road”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
55cm x 39cm

It felt far too cold to go out yesterday so instead I have revisited a painting from last summer, the ruin of an early 19th century merchant’s warehouse on Waterloo Road.

“The Parrot”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
55cm x 39cm

The Parrot pub looks to date from around the 1840’s and was once one of 200 street corner pubs along Liverpool’s Scotland Rd. When I walked the street earlier this year there appeared to be not a single one left.

“Parkfield Road”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
55cm x 39cm

Another piece in my series loosely themed on Liverpool’s crumbling stucco buildings - all of which date from the first half of the 19th century. Parkfield Rd is a perfect hunting ground for this architecture.

“Came a cropper”
Charcoal, chalk and ink on paper
2025
(55cm x39cm)

Number 23 Cropper St “Newington Buildings” was built in 1847 as a commercial building.

The 3rd in my recent series of Liverpool’s crumbling stucco buildings, rendered in charcoal with acrylic applied in places.

“Big Bowl Noodle Bar”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
55cm x 39cm

Warmsley’s Yard on Berry St dates from 1803. Shown in the wet and darkening evenings of autumn.

I did a drawing of their non-identical twin at the other end of the block last spring - included here too. #liverpool #art

“Everton Barracks”
Chalk, charcoal and acrylic on paper
2025
(55cm x 39cm)
Vivid.drag.navy

After some rather involved map pictures, yesterday I fancied a palette cleanser of a simple building portrait. The sepia tones and symmetry reflect the abandoned building’s classical roots.

“The Avenues”
Ink, chalk, crayon and collage on paper
2025
(55cm x 39cm)

The Avenues are a grid of 8 leafy Victorian streets, of genteel red brick villas. Alongside the houses are 3 Grade 1 listed Victorian churches (must be a unique statistic!) of which I’ve included 2 here.

“Goodison Park”
Acrylic and crayon over monotype
2025
55cm x 39cm

This part of Everton was saved from the planners’ wrecking ball and I was rather moved by the long lines of terraced houses, each ending in the walls of the stadium - wrapped with huge photos of the club’s players. #art

Iron bay window on Webster Road
Ink and charcoal on board
2025
(15cm x 30cm)

Today’s small painting is of an abandoned house in Wavertree. The bay windows on these houses are distinctive, supported with chunky cast iron columns, and these are the main focus of the piece. #liverpool #art

Nocturne Kopitiam Sentral
Ink and charcoal on wood panel
2025
15cm x 30cm

While I’m struggling with my back I’m rather enjoying having a go at these little pieces.

The subject of today’s painting is a rare surviving building by
renowned Liverpool architect Peter Ellis. #liverpool #art

Ducie Street
Ink, collage, crayon, metal gold leaf
30cm x 15cm
2025

I injured my back a few weeks ago which has prevented me from doing much. However I’m on the mend so had a go at this small piece today.

This is my 3rd piece based on the ruined houses of Ducie Street in Toxteth #liverpool #art

Chalk, ink and crayon
2025
39cm x 50cm

Today’s drawing of Port Sunlight. I’m continuing to experiment with colours for these pieces but this view is of part of Queen Mary’s Drive. These houses have decorative brick infill to the timber frame. #liverpool #art
