#nzpol, this applies also to a country like New Zealand when it chooses to force homeless people to 'move on' rather than choosing to help them

I keep on coming back to the irrefutable fact that the people in New Zealand that don't want to address the impact of colonisation and argue "it's in the past, the current generation are not responsible for that" continue to enjoy benefits that flowed directly from that colonisation.

We are in a world which is run by millionaire/ billionaire political donations and Right Wing dictators and it's not normal.

But this abnormal Luxon government thinks it's normal for this corrupt money to dictate how they run our society

It's wrong and unethical

Something centre left parties all over the world need to understand. Voters aren’t going to choose the ersatz right wing party when the real one is right there. All that lurching ever rightward does is alienate left wing voters.
#nzpol
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a more succinct and powerful statement of the situation than this: “Few voters who prioritize bigotry want the diet version.” Got damn.
'Few voters who prioritize bigotry want the diet version, and trying to appease them alienates parts of the Democratic coalition. Yesterday’s vote shows that the path to defeating Trumpism is not accommodating it, but opposing it with the values of freedom, equality, and affordability.'

Exorbitant power prices but sub par services. This is the outcome when shareholder dividends are put ahead of investment in infrastructure and maintenance. #nzpol

Everyone expects the Govt to help them if required, but I think the political parties in NZ can be categorized by how their voters want the Govt to help others:
Nat: not unemployed
NZF: not immigrants
ACT: not poor
Labour: everyone but not too much
Green/TPM: everyone

Tomorrow is the Fifth of November – but let’s forget Guy Fawkes and his actions against an arrogant Protestant king and instead look to our own history: the unlawful attack on Parihaka and, by extension, Māori sovereignty.
