A riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a yorkshire pudding.
I once wrote a flash fiction-y thing called Technofetish about a posthuman Bond on Mars.

There's one week left for writers in the North of England to send us their stories!

We're looking for folklore-inspired tales to publish in our first anthology.

It's been a real treat to read all the submissions so far, but we'd love to squeeze a few more in 🙏

Sent off a short story this week. Now the waiting begins. But it's nice to be back on the horse after giving up for a while.

Having watched the Final Programme twice, I found myself writing a bit of Jerry Cornelius pastiche microfiction as an exercise. It all ended up very pithy and pulped the mot juste (I quite liked the idea of macrodosing which popped up).

It's September, which means our submissions call-out for writers in the North of England closes at the end of this month!

We're looking for strange, lyrical, literary and mesmerising short stories for our first anthology, on the theme of folklore 🍂

I'm rereading the Dalek Factor by Simon Clark of an evening and this time I'm choosing to read the undefined Doctor as Richard E Grant, and it works rather well so far.

I'd probably make it through Andor faster if just one of the English actors wasn't upper class.

Have been working my way through Hill Street Blues and now into Season 6 and this Buntz character being at the heart of every episode is not what I want. I like Dennis Franz but it shifts the moral centre of the show.

Hey UK friends, cis friends especially, I've blasted through a response to the EHRC's (hot garbage) recommendations on bathrooms and single sex spaces, and you should too. Time-consuming, but easy if you follow Sandra Duffy's very clear, very good step-by-step guide sandraduffy.blog/2025/05/21/r...

So I got two episodes into A Spy Among Friends but not sure I can keep going, which given that Guy Pearce is in it, is a shock. I can't decide if Martin and Lewis (ha ha) are hampered by the accents they've assumed or if it's the script or the direction.

Highlight of the weekend was seeing Christopher Ryan being interviewed at SciFi Scarborough, ostensibly about the Young Ones and Dr Who, and him mostly wanting to talk about how much he loves the Beatles and the 50s TV he used to watch as a kid.

Really enjoyed Exploring the Urban Weird so have no doubt this is worth your time.
Last year, I taught "Exploring the Urban Weird" for Comma Press ... and I'm teaching again this year, this time an online course called The Novelist's Toolkit. It runs on a Thursday evening starting early June, tickets are £15 / £80 / £120, bookable on www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-noveli...

My mate dressed up as a curlew at the weekend and did a walk (his job involves a lot of work around promotion of curlews) and it's quite interesting watching the commentary from this perspective.

Working my way slowly through Hill St Blues and interesting to see the bits later recycled in NYPD Blue, much like Kelley recycling plotlines from the Practice in Boston Legal. But just mostly miss such rich, adult storytelling.

Huh, two of my Reference Reviews articles were stolen by Meta as well. If I hadn't stopped using their services I would be stopping using their services.
