Now on TPR:

The Ontario Land Tribunal just issued a significant decision for #HamOnt, overturning Hamilton's 30-storey height limit, saying it will create a "monolithic skyline."

39-storeys is now approved at 117 Jackson Street East. #yhmcc #HamOnt www.thepublicrecord.ca/2024/12/onta...
Ontario Land Tribunal Overrules Hamilton's Downtown Height Limit
OLT approves 39-storey tall building at 117 Jackson Street East, and notes with emphasised concern that Hamilton's height limit will create a "monolithic skyline."

In a world where all too often things fall apart, Jan. 1st is one of most hopeful days of the year. It’s the day when things come together: the day countries join the EU, the Eurozone, or Schengen Area. On this Jan 1st, Romania and Bulgarian will finally join Schengen—a step towards unity. 👏
Fully in Schengen - where you belong.

NEW: CycleToronto and other citizens have launched a Charter challenge of the Ford government's law to remove bike lanes. CT's executive director is not present at the Queen's Park announcement because... he was doored on Monday in a painted bike lane and is hospitalized.

That’s the thing. We need to create at least one pedestrian street in Ontario just so people can see how great they are.
People—universally, and without exception—love car-free commercial streets.

Bollards are the most efficient way to protect pedestrians. They provide the most effective barrier to cars while posing the least impediment to pedestrians.

Don't be angry at the person riding on the sidewalk, direct your frustration at the decision makers that have refused to provide safe routes. Let's attack the problem not the symptom.

Perhaps more than any other, Bangladesh is a riverine country.

Brutally stupid. Sad to think of all the innocent people who will inevitably be injured or killed because of this insane car-worshipping legislation.
NEW: Premier Doug Ford's bike lane removal law has now been passed by the Ontario legislature.
The government has been preparing to remove three lanes: University Ave. Bloor St. and Yonge St.

Sad day for humanity. People are more important than cars.
A sad day for cyclists in Toronto, Ottawa, and across Ontario. Third Reading of Doug Ford's anti bike lane Bill 212 passed 66 to 27. We must keep fighting including organizing to #VoteFordOut when the election comes! #shame #BikeTO #ottbike #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

#HamOnt could use this in so many places to dead end streets entering Cannon and others to stop cars cutting through neighbourhoods and still provide places for people walking, cycling and rolling to get through.
This is Shaw Street in Toronto, absolutely beautiful.
Hats off to everyone that helped transform this street

The tea gardens of Sylhet, Bangladesh are so serene and quiet and perfectly complimented by the bicycle. In Ontario: this man would be considered to be engaging in a provocative activity.

Please #HamOnt, just give us at least one pedestrian street downtown.
Advisors told Ljubljana’s mayor that pedestrianizing downtown would be political suicide. Eighteen years later, he’s still mayor.

Doug Ford: We’re ripping out bike lanes.
Ontarians: People will get hurt or killed.
Doug Ford: 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s crazy that the government is openly admitting that their decision to remove protected bicycle lanes will lead to people dying, and their response is not to reverse the decision to save lives, but to protect themselves legally from the responsibility of their decision.
This is blatant life endangerment thru dangerous public policy I wouldn’t have thought possible until recently. In Ontario the Doug Ford Govt plans to BAN LAWSUITS against the Province WHEN people on bikes are hurt or killed after they rip out safe bike-lanes. “Stay off streets for your own safety.”

This graphic from 1924 beautifully illustrates one of the many reasons why #hamont needs the LRT. It’s just a much more efficient and economical use of valuable space than private automobiles.

A necessary rebuttal to an insane car-brained scheme. If Ontario planners don’t stand up to this madness, there will be no longer be a planning profession in Ontario.
BREAKING: The Ontario Professional Planners Institute has submitted an 8-page letter to the Government of Ontario opposing the removal of bike-lanes in Toronto or any other municipal jurisdiction.

They make a very thorough case, connecting the dots with evidence.

I love this 5-storey apartment in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The curved balconies are a nice touch. Wish we saw this level of variation in Ontario.

One thing that is really missing in North America is a roof-top culture. Here in Sylhet, Bangladesh—as in many places around the world—there is a whole ecosystem of life and activity that takes place above the street.

The Hamilton, ON LRT received approval and full federal and provincial funding in May 2021. An RFQ to prepare the corridor for construction just went out. Major line construction won’t start until probably 2027.

Is it reasonable to take 6 years to *start* building an approved rapid transit line?
