Hello, I'm Steven Flanagan, an ageing Englishman likely to post about #comics, #DoctorWho, and other old TV and film, as well as any other trivial stuff that seems interesting, useful or amusing.
I draw a bit and do some image editing.
I'm trying to think of characters who once seemed like cultural fixtures but have now died out. The most obvious are Tarzan, Fu Manchu and Charlie Chan, I think - all killed by the irremovable racism inherent in their concepts.
I secretly think that about ALL the “classic” franchises clogging up the cultural broadband these days.

In Icelandic we have 'Ókind' for monster. But the translation is un-sheep. So everything not a sheep is dangerous.

Two weeks later, I finally realised that they are both playing on the familiar sound of "motte and bailey."

I must confirm that I am *not* the Resurrection; nor am I the Life.
I must confirm that I am *not* Superman, and I have no idea what's happening.
I must confirm that I am *not* a rock. Neither am I an island.

Looking through the RSC website, I found these: plush pink snakes (not a euphemism).
I'm not sure which Shakespeare play the Mara appeared in (though it would explain much about Iago or Leontes), but if any Doctor Who fan wants a novelty draft excluder, there are links in the replies below.

The difference between these and existing controls is that the user is not making choices: the system is deciding algorithmically. Can we each please have the option to disable them for our own feeds?
I don't want a "dislike" button because I don't want to train my brain to be negative.

It seems that @myrnaloyarchive.bsky.social no longer posts here, but over on the bad place they've just posted the only genuine photo I've ever seen of Myrna Loy wearing a witch's hat. Note that, unlike that crudely photoshopped monstrosity that's been posted repeated this Hallowe'en, the hat fits.

If I were a cynical man, I might suspect that Countdown's random number generator had been rigged especially for the 31 October episode.

Looking for something spooky, I watched Marchlands (2011). It took me ages to realise that Sydney Wade, the child actor who played the daughter of Alex Kingston's character, also appeared in Doctor Who that year as the little girl version of River Song - usually played, of course, by Kingston.

Note that the ex-Chumbley dome is a creamy colour, unlike the harsher pale grey/white of the rest of the Emperor. Is that a clue to the original colour of the Chumblies? I know that Peter Purves told Clayton Hickman that they were blue, but memories after 50+ years may not be accurate.
Have been doing #DoctorWho Evil of the Daleks research. The Emperor Dalek appears in film sequences at Ealing for shots of the Dalek Civil War. There are tons of gorgeous phtographs from this shoot. Note the triangular bars above the Emperor and the two tubes attached at his lowest level. 1/

The clocks that change automatically have done so, but I haven't got round to changing the others yet, so I am living in two different times simultaneously. I am drinking a cup of coffee that I haven't made yet.
